Nappies

I was thinking of buying a supply of nappies for our new grandbaby, (due in July) but have seen a few things lately about a movement back to modern cloth nappies rather than disposables. Obviously I'll ask the parents what they want to use, but I'm curious what babies are actually wearing these days.
Anybody have any current info?

It's probably relevant to note, baby won't be in day care until about 12 months old.

Pretty exciting a CS grandbaby actually.... used to be posters counting down till there own baby was born, none of them around anymore.. so grandbabies it is.

Disposables for us.  Not good enough water for washing nappies and no rashes with disposables  😄

I'm with you Lurker. I shrugged. And moved on.
Nothing's going to spoil my mood, we're off to Brisbane tomorrow for the Paul Simon /Sting concert on Tues.

My grandbabies that were born in the same year are all turning 8 this year........ 4 down,  one to go. Hard to believe that this time 8 years ago I was in the UK in snow!

When my youngest was expecting her first baby I offered to buy her whatever nappies she wanted.  She was adamant that she wanted the old fashioned cloth nappies (it was 15 years ago)

I duly bought and washed 3 dozen of the most outrageously expensive cloth nappies I could find, complete with nappy liners, nappy pins and some fancy plastic pants.

When baby had been home a week I asked if she would like a lesson on how to fold the nappy to get it small enough for that very little bottom.  Something about the look on DD's face told me she was finding it all too hard.  I was right....the nappies never saw the bottoms of either of my grandchildren but they did make very handy and easily washable shoulder drapes that both children loved to chew when they were teething.  I suppose they were not completely wasted but they were rather expensive teething rings.

When I was expecting my first, I went off to the shops with the intention of buying cloth nappies.. it was all too hard.. cotton with fluffy side or toweling type ones, price variation vs quality.. so I bought a handbag instead.

My DD used the modern cloth nappies for her last baby, and the old fashioned type for the first 2. 

She very carefully calculated the cost of cloth nappies plus laundry costs versus disposables and cloth won, even factoring the purchase of the new ones!

DIL used disposables for the convenience. 

Youngest DD wil use the modern cloth ones that have been kept for her by her sister.

And ALL of my children reacted to disposables to varying degrees and I could only use them for absolute emergencies and a very  short time.
