Nativiity scene

I'm still reeling from the shock.   Southland shopping centre (melbourne) has one of the most beautiful christmas trees i've ever seen in a mall.  And next to it ....the nativity...the old fashioned one that we know, if anyone can remember!        The baby in a manger and mary and joseph and i think a couple  of lambs thrown in too.

Can't help but wonder how long it will be allowed to sta:y there.    Smiley Surprised i'll get some photos next time.

Has anyone else seen non pc decorations?

I actually find stalker's nativity post quite offensive 😞

I don't find it offensive at all - I think it is funny....and I remember a few priests who would think it was clever (especially the camel as one was a serial smoker).

And speaking of getting names wrong....

I also remember reading something years ago about a child explaining to his mother he was in the school nativity play.  (I'll bet it was a paragraph sent in to Reader's Digest). "I'm playing one of the three wise men, and I carry the frankenstein!" Smiley LOL

And thinking :

While Shepherds wash their socks by night.

As opposed to watch their flocks by night.

Some just don't have humour in their soul.

Sad.

"I shall be boycotting **** store from now on. I was in there yesterday and they were aactually playing  Christmas Carols."

There' is a sign saying Merry Hhristmas " in my local mall. I find  it offensive as I am a Muslim/Hindu/ Budhist/Jehovah's Witness."

People don't always put it into words (though some do) but believe me, the offence is out there.

I used to teach. I got told off plenty of times by parents for offending. Sometimes I didn't even know I had.

First time was when I had children colouring in the Australian flag & learning about the different parts of it. That offended jehovah's witnesses. I had not realised they can't touch flags.

Next, I had children using a computer program about gold rush era (supplied & loaded on by the school) and one mother complained as one of the gold rush men in it had a gun. She also rang up to complain about me when the kids learnt a song that had the word hunter in it.

I got into trouble once for reading a fairy tale type story to the class that featured a witch. The school never touched Halloween of course but you'd be surprised how many books have witches.

Then Christmas. We weren't allowed to mention any of the religious background to Easter/Christmas, even though we were expected to read books about Eid at the appropriate times as part of a general studies push. But several muslim families still chose to wirthdraw their kids from school from early December so they could not be exposed to any Christmas activities such as making decorations etc

And don't get me going about the complaint I had after drawing a cartoon pig (3 little pigs) on the board when we were studying fairy tales (and spelling) in an infant class. Apparently you are not allowed to show photos of pigs, even if you're studying farming.

It's easy to offend over just about anything.Smiley Wink

Exactly   .... thankfully I still have that choice   .... Interesting there is never a joke re Muslim, Jews etc posted on CS, it's always a dig at the Christian religion  .... wonder why that is?

Elephant I am not going to go in the why's n wherefores ( sp ), enough to say I have seen it   ..... check out some of the pages on fb sometime, you "may" just be surprised

springyzone,

The commant about the mother complaining about the gun (and hunter) reminded me of a story where another diligent mother did not want her son exposed to guns and the like.

As she related the story, she explainted she thought she was doing a very good job and had got the message across.  That was until one morning at breakfast when her young son picked up a piece of bread and carefully ate bits of it until he was left with a gun shape....and pretended he was shooting everyone.  Boys will be boys apparently (and not just boys - who hasn't played cops and robbers, spacemen and aliens etc as a child?)

She realised it was better to teach him good behaviour and respect for others than focus on avoiding guns (toys included).
