Opera House Cans 'Honour Killing' Talk

The public face of Islamist group Hizb ut-Tahrir says "hysteria" has won out after the Sydney Opera House backflipped on plans for a public talk on honour killings.

Its inclusion in the line-up sparked a barrage of criticism on social media and condemnation from the NSW government, with Minister for Women Pru Goward branding it "abhorrent".

Mr Badar had indicated he did not intend to defend honour killings.

His tweeted response to one critic who wrote, "Any one who condones or justifies the murder of defenceless women is a gutless creep", was: "I'm with you on that. Calm down."

Why is it considered hysteria when we stand up for our values in this country and freedom of speech when he he speaks out for his.
Having said that it would have been interesting to hear what he had to say before we set the feministers free to tear him apart

He has only himself to blame.............

"What's interesting is that I'm being attacked left, right and centre without having opened my mouth yet."

Perhaps he should have titled it differently.

Yes I would have thought it interesting to hear what he had to say about it.

Then again they didn't let that anti-Islam bloke, whatisname Geert Wilders speak either, so fair's fair. But it goes to show "freedom of speech" is a bit of a misnomer in this country as well. There's a fine line which may not be crossed.

‘Honor Killings are Morally Justified’ is a horrible choice words for the title of a topic and even though the speaker did not choose it, he did give his approval.

Yes, I have. Your point being? The words were chosen for marketing purposes and it backfired.

"Honour Killings are Morally Justifiable"

Violence against women is never justifiable and to give such a title to a talk to be given by the spokesman of an Islamist group only feeds the misconception that such acts are condoned by Muslims.  The topic title is a statement and not a question. The title gave the wrong impression of what the talk would be about. A cheap and tacky way to garner publicity.

Apparently, while he approved it, the title was not his choice.
