I have to admit I don't watch commercial TV or any Tv for that matter. So if I have time, I usually flick between ABC or SBS.
I started with 7.30 which is always good. Then Foreign Correspondent which had an excellent expose as usual. Then the magnificent Mr Keating. Then At The Movies. And now having a laugh with Jennifer Byrne and her gaggle of writers.
I so get my money's worth.

I agree with you Martini.
Commercial tv is geared to the lowest common denominator.....and does it well.
In addition to the ABC programs , their journalism is without peer. The finest journalists and interviewers on tv.
Journalists who do their homework on an issue and are informed.
eg. Kerry interviewing Keating just this week.
They expose important issues that commercial tv don't really want to touch. ie. live animal export just for one.
They do their research.......remember the Rainbow Warrior? 4 Corners did what Interpol couldn't.
Yes, I love my ABC......even Media Watch when they do a job on the ABC itself without fear of retribution..
I also watch SBS which run some good informative programs too..

Freshie, it is worth noting that the commercial stations also aim their advertisements during programs at certain demographics.
No commercial ads on ABC so no need for this.

INAM: " I have to admit I don't watch commercial TV or any Tv for that matter. So if I have time, I usually flick between ABC or SBS." "I started with 7.30 which is always good. Then Foreign Correspondent which had an excellent expose as usual. Then the magnificent Mr Keating. Then At The Movies. And now having a laugh with Jennifer Byrne and her gaggle of writers. "
An interesting way to not " watch ..........any Tv for that matter."
However, considering a majority of viewers (ratio 4:1) watch commercial TV, one might be interested in what the majority watch/think. A little like the majority in politics when you are the disgruntled minority!.
I will, every month or so, tune in to BB for 5 minutes, or watch a similar amount of a "Survivor Anywhere" show, after which I will brush my hair with a brick and return to sanity.
I do like having a coffee when shopping, and always go where they have newspapers then home in on the Herald-Sun because i would never buy it in a fit (and I like the funnies and cryptic). It is the most popular newspaper so I try and keep up to date with what its readers are consuming.
Finally INAM, occasionally somewhere there will be a list of the previous week's top 10 TV programmes, I am always concerned if anything I have watched is mentioned. You decipher that, as I watch "New Tricks".

However considering a majority of viewers (ratio 4:1) watch commercial TV
Monman, based on this figure.....ABC and (?) SBS vs. the major commercial stations.....I am pleasantly surprised at just how many watch ABC.

Only a wild guess, and very wrong.
