I'm just establishing a little garden in my new courtyard but know the possum family in the nearby trees are waiting to feast . In my previous garden they stripped it 😞 Has anyone tried that bird netting overnight? I've tried just about everything else.

Couple of years ago during winter possums attacked absolutely everything in my garden, including my special geraniums that I grew from seeds. In the end I bought whole lot of old large bird cages and covered the plants that looked like they might recover, and then I left out one cut up apple every night, and they stopped eating my plants.
But plants are not the worst worry; just heard last night on news possums are a vector for the flesh eating bacteria found near here. 😞

I use plastic coated wire mesh, 25mm, because that's what they had at Bunnings, ha ha, and make my own "cages".
Half the rose bush is covered at the moment because a certain little girl possum Loves fresh new rose leaves...
So now she's got her half of the rose bush and I've got mine, ha ha.
The carrot and stick approach is a good idea - or you could try apples, or sultanas instead of carrots, ha ha - fence an area off, but compensate them with a bit of a treat.
Bird mesh sounds like it might be a bit flimsy, but try it out and see how you go...
If you're going to try making your own repellent, use someone else's kitchen.
Preferably someone you really don't like... ha ha.
Smelly is not the word for it, ha ha.

Have I told you how much I hate both?
They're incontinent and pee and poop everywhere, attracting blowies in Summer.
Well they took care of that! I awoke this morning to find my hanging basket of wandering jew completely decmiated by the
freaking dear little things. Just about half a dozen bare sad stalks left.

Oops, they were decimated too.

I could send you a few possums if you like, I believe we have a few of yours over here 🙂

I am sure Stawks will be muttering "I told you so" when she sees this.
If you are determined to grow the Wandering Jew put it in a large birdcage.....it will gradually grow through the sides and the possums can have a feast but they will not get to the main plant.

Now that's a bit of lateral thinking, OK, bird cages here I come. 🙂

You will probably be able to save the plant if the possums have not pulled the roots out....even then they will probably come good if you give them some TLC.
