Refugee burden

Just for the records, Germany provides food, health care, financial support, education, housing and does NOT lock up people on remote islands. Italy with a significant refugee issue declares a day of national mourning when a boat capsizes on the Mediterranean and people drown.

Did anyone read that article in the New York Times about the journo who hitched a ride in an asylum seeker boat to Christmas Island? There's another article in the guardian today about that woman photographed crying when her boat arrived...the photo was used in propaganda. Both are worthwhile reading if ppl want to get a glimpse into the other side of the story (hint to clever people, this helps with developing a balanced, educated opinion)

Thanks Karen.  That is an amazing story.  Unfortunatly, I doubt it will change many hard set minds.

Re: Refugee burden

Going back to late Nov last year did Tony Abbott announce (query a backflip ? ) that the Coalition would cut the recently increased humanitarian intake... from 20,000 back down to 13,750 ? Has that happened ?

That won't help the situation imo

What I don't understand is the level of animosity towards asylum seekers. Murderers, paedophiles, etc, I can understand the hatred but not when its aimed at people who need help.

It's simple, Bluecat - if we can convince ourselvesthat  these people are undeserving parasites, then we don't need to feel bad about turning them away or worry about where they will go or what might happen to them.

I mentioned on here some of the things he reported in his article & got some adverse remarks when I mentioned where the "refugees" after ringing for the RAN escort/taxi service to "rescue" them & after they were given an ETA threw phones & papers overboard & disabled the motor when the ship/ships were near enought to shield them from the weather.

I read all the comments about how “heartless” we are, Hanson Young goes on TV every chance she can get to demonize the Abbott govt. yet nothing from these hypocrites under Labor

l am assured that the uncontrolled invasion of our country has slowed, I’m glad we can go back to a more organized immigrant intake.

The main reason Labor was ousted so disastrously is precisely because they COMPLETELY lost control of our borders, endangered our sovereignty and destroyed our good relations with our neighbours.

I don't give a fig about all the “armchair caring” on here, you are in the minority and are irrelevant to the majority of Australians who really care about our country.
