I just read this article from Sydney Morning Herald;
An independent review announced on Tuesday will advise Education Minister Simon Birmingham on whether the program's material is "age appropriate" by mid-March.
The issue dominated discussion in Tuesday's behind-closed-doors meeting of Coalition MPs and senators.
In the meeting, Liberal senator Cory Bernardi called for the $8 million program to be defunded because he was concerned it was being used to "indoctrinate children into a Marxist agenda of cultural relativism".
Senator Bernardi added he believed the program was prematurely sexualising children, saying he was concerned young people were being instructed how to hide their breasts or **bleep**. He told Fairfax Media he had collected 9500 signatures in a petition from "concerned Australians" in less than a week.

Does anyone know much about the framework for this programme? I thought this safe schools programme was about eradicating bullying etc.

I'll repost this again. because it conflicts with what the Australian Christian Lobby and Cory Bernardi/G Christiansen are claiming
Don't believe everything conservative MPs claim: the FACTS on what Safe Schools teaches kids
A 2010 Australian study of more than 3000 same-sex attracted young people found 61 per cent reported verbal abuse because of homophobia, with 18 per cent reporting physical abuse. About 80 per cent of the abuse happened at school.
Meanwhile, mental health experts warn LGBTI people are at a far greater risk of self-harm and suicide than their peers.
Given this, in 2014, the Abbott government launched the Safe Schools Coalition - an initiative conceived under the previous Labor government to stop the bullying of LGBTI students (who make up at least 10 per cent of the school population).
And there is nothing in the Safe Schools material that is explicit or that instructs kids on ( what bernadi and Christiansen claim)
it's actually some other website apparently... a supporter of safe schools ( mentioned in the Age article)

found this.
this person is asking specific questions
so maybe you can find some links there.
also, just by quickly going through it
it looks like the safe school coalition
answered some of the questions.

from what I can gather, the problem is a youth group called minus18- there must be a support link somewhere in safe schools that imo could be removed

i don't know, looks like a blog ???
the point was, that guy seems
to have read all the material
and has specific questions to which
the safe school coalition responded.
i gave you the link because you were
asking if anyone knew what the
controversy was.

thanks Julia I found what the controversy is over as per my last post
it's another site - not safe schools

possibly. from the christian
lens blog:
I see you’re in partnership with another website, minus 18. No doubt you’re aware this website recommends dangerous practices such breast-binding for females, even though it readily admits:
[Chest binding] has a level of risk attached to it… it has the potential to be lethal.’
Yet nowhere on that web-page does it even recommend getting medical advice before undergoing such a procedure.
the blog goes on about other issues
that you might be interested in
so dont shoot the messenger lol

when you click on 'our support organizations' from safe schools, they are on the list there amongst a whole lot of others - so that must be be the only link

I don't agree that that should be on there either Julia - apparently minus 18 is some sort of youth led group
but you can't even click on their logo- maybe you have to look up the support groups by name to see what they're on about
