Senator Cash

A Brisbane father says he is concerned for his eight-month-old son, whose Vietnamese mother faces deportation from Australia.

Lisa Le, 30, has been refused permanent residency after Assistant Immigration Minister Michaelia Cash decided it was not in the public interest to intervene and grant her a partner visa to stay in the country.

Ms Le, who is separated from her Australian husband, David Nguyen, has been told she must leave the country by June.

However, Mr Nguyen has called on Senator Cash to change her mind.

"I don't think my son deserves to be without a father," he said.

"My son doesn't deserve to be in the third world country, plus he is Australian, he deserves to stay here, he deserves to have a family and she should have a visa to stay back here."

Policy 'change' on visas unannounced

Angus Francis from the Refugee and Immigration Legal Service says the rights of the child are not being considered, and that the number of similar cases is worrying.

"Usually, in the past, the Minister would intervene," he said, adding that he had seen 10 cases like Ms Le's in recent weeks.

"So, it appears to be there has been a change of policy, there hasn't been a formally announcement of that policy, but we have seen a number of cases now where there has been issues with this."

Senator Cash says it would be inappropriate and unhelpful to comment on Ms Le's case. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-04-18/father-david-ngugen-fears-deportation-of-baby-vietnamese-mothe...

The father could always choose to move to Vietnam to be with his family

Not necessarily. Just like Australia, Vietnam has rules about who can live and work there, and for how long.

Having a child knowing that the end result could and now has resulted in the mother and child being deported.

This is a sad situation but it is used by illegal immigrants to wedge the government and to garner sympathy to stay here ably abetted by interest groups.

If the rules were lifted to allow a person to stay here permanently simply because they deliberately got pregnant to achieve that end then we would see an explosion of pregnancies for visas, pregnancies for gain.

This is the same argument the illegal immigration industry are now using to demand  children permanent residency if they arrive by boat, or are in detention with their parents, an explosion of children on boats would occur and that is the reason why this law should not be changed.

Of course this logic is jettisoned by the chattering classes, doesn't suit their agenda.

Australians are a wake up to the gaming and outright lies illegal immigration has resulted in, they are over it, they now know they are no longer  being taken for mugs.

If you are an illegal immigrant and you have a child in the country you gained  illegal entry  into, does not automatically make the progeny a national of said country.

missed this little sentence then? Obviously people should have the ability to look into the future and predict when governments are going to change policy, how silly of some people not to be able to do this.

It's so wonderful to see our religious community in support of innocent children this easter........

Australian Churches Refugee Taskforce

This is a new low from the Australia government with how it deals with the children of asylum seekers – the conditions on Nauru have been described as inhumane by the United Nations and now they are trying to say that children who have been born on the mainland have come by boat as a means of stopping them from remaining in Australia and seeking the protection they are entitled from under international law.”

Australian Churches Refugee Taskforce. Say no more

They are seeing their meal tickets drying up. The illegal immigrant industry are using children to emote, to further their raison d'etre.

If there was such an outrage against this type of policy then where were they for the last 6 years???

They were steadily building their industry with all the money and help from Labor  they needed, Labor who totally abrogated all responsibility and just chucked money at it in the hope that it would go away,  become an industry we needed, a non revenue raising industry at that.

Australians have woken up to the crocodile tears now being shed, they are a wake up to the lies and manipulation illegal immigrants traded in along with the smugglers., they are a wake up to the left now trying to show how much more they care, not, they are using their failure in this  as a political tool.

Well guess what?? it's not working anymore.

Re: Senator Cash

The Pope on asylum seekers.......

In stark contrast to Abbott's puerile ''Stop the Boats'' sloganeering, Pope Francis spoke of ''immigrants'' rather than ''illegal boat people'', describing how their boats ''which were vehicles of hope … became vehicles of death''. His visit and his words made Lampedusa, and asylum seekers, an issue that Europeans could no longer turn a blind eye to.

Abbott, on the other hand, asserted with breathtaking insouciance in his Christmas email: ''We are a good and generous people and I hope this Christmas we will remember everyone who is doing it tough and lend a hand where we can.'' His idea of lending a hand evidently does not extend to providing adequate medical assistance for Australia's asylum seekers, or even basic shelter on Nauru or Manus Island. Those former detainees who are permitted to live in society but not to work and who, therefore, must crowd together in accommodation now risk being returned to detention if callous neighbours find these living arrangements offensive.

and......

Bishop Saunders quoted recent words of Pope Francis, who said: ‘Migrants and refugees are not pawns on the chessboard of humanity’. The Pope called for us all to move away from ‘attitudes of defensiveness and fear’.

‘It is time for the Australian government to act in accordance with its responsibilities under the Refugee Convention and to exercise compassion towards those who come to our shores justly seeking a new life in peace’, Bishop Saunders said.
