Don't you believe that should work both ways, why is it the male that's always wrong, didn't the girl have something to do with this.

It should work both ways.

Sometimes it's very clear that either one or both are not ready for a serious relationship, the more responsible one in that case should be very careful.

Any protection that woman can do is not 100%, if man is not sure he wants to have long term relationship, it i up to him to also take some steps to prevent possibility of pregnancy.  In the case of a junkie girlfriend he must have been very naive not to use condom anyway.  AIDS is still around as are other STDs.

I was thinking that even today, some girls and women see their value only when a boy or man pays attention to them.  Their value and self worth should have been instilled in them by their parents from day one, but sadly it is often not the case.

It is still common to see a father say, when asked for something by his toddler daughter, "Give me a kiss", or "Give me a hug".  She does, and she gets the item she asked for.  So this barter system of value is overtly or covertly embedded in her psyche.

Think of the film, Fatal Attraction, and others perhaps less intense.  The woman, even though a bit deranged, thought that she was loved.  The sexual act has different meanings for males and females.

It is actually stated to medical students (in a particular lecture) that "Men give love for sex, and women give sex for love".
