Standing in line for the teacher before classes started on Friday mornings with my book and a shilling.  Saved a fair bit until high school.  Then I learnt about Withdrawals.  

Had just enough to buy my first grown-up winter coat to wear whilst travelling on the red-rattlers to the new job in the city in the middle of winter.

I thought it much nicer than the Brit's GBP or the Euro, for instance, or even the Hong Kong money, when we were overseas in June.
