Weve got this beyond stupid dog

It was a yr old last week, a Hungarian Puli

My daughters dream dog, has dreadlocks instead of fur

She had to wait til she was 18 to get it cos Im mean like that and now she has it and Man is it dumb

I am not to used to stupid dogs, I used to smart working dogs or my (RIP) baby who was trained to within an inch of its life LOL

This mutt, blounces off walls in excitement, stupid as, runs up people, literally runs up you and somersalts off

Kids thinks its hysterical, I cant stand it

Gets taken out every day and every weekend to dog park twice and still comes home exhausted and runs up the wall ๐Ÿ˜

Any one know these dogs? Any hints?

Re: Stupid dog question

I think you are being somewhat harsh.

"Training a Puli is very easy. They are very eager to learn and display their intelligence to follow commands. However, owners must exhibit natural authority over the dog. Weak minded owners may give an impression to the Puli that he is the pack leader. When this happens, the dog will become too willful with a mind of his own.

The Puli is highly intelligent and very trainable. They excel in obedience training and they are a cheerful and devoted breed. They are very adaptable and can become accustomed to any kind of environment.

They can be very wary to strangers but they are naturally friendly and never aggressive. Your Puli will only bark to announce the arrival of an unfamiliar guest. Because of its herding instinct, they are not recommended for children. They can become dominant with kids if not properly socialized."

Re: Stupid dog question

It's only a year old, lobs, it will settle down with maturity. Poor you in the meantime - we have three "teenage" dogs and they're all crazy too, but they do settle down within a few minutes, we just have a few minutes of complete chaos first when they come inside from playing outside. I get greeted with fits of ecstasy after coming back from just checking the mailbox - WHERE have you BEEN?! It's been SO LONG!

As well as physical exhaustion, you need to stimulate it mentally as well. Your last dog was 'trained to within an inch of its life", so you've obviously got a few clues as to how to train a dog; so get the new dog into a training program so it's exercising its brain as well as its body. Also you can get great toys these days that get the dog to use its brain to find treats hidden within the toys. Even stuff like an old coke/milk bottle with some treats inside keep them busy for a goodish amount of time.

Re: Stupid dog question

You need to really get on top of this breed, like many if not trained can get out of hand, they are known to be a bit aggressive if not trained.

Re: Stupid dog question

Spot on CF.

I have Basenjis (a little wild) which have survived unchanged in Africa for a few thousand years (birthday cake candles cost a fortune) . The breed is strong minded, stubborn, independent, how else would they survive in Egypt/Africa?, but they are still a pack animal, and a pack should have a  leader, a forceful one at that.

I was introduced to  Basenjis by a woman who used to ask me to call back her Basenji   at the local park when it was exercising and appeared deliberately deaf. My friend loved her dog, but being a woman did not have a deep/loud/dominant voice, and was a little soft! Her dog did not regard her as the pack leader, but responded to my "growls".

Like children, a dog  recognises controlling weakness, and can/will take advantage of it.

A dog owner must become the alpha dog in order to control/lead the animal, and in my opinion having been to only one puppy class, the owners should be trained for the first lesson or two, not the dogs.

As for grooming you have to be crazy with that breed

Good luck.

Thanks for that ๐Ÿ™‚

She did puppy class for 3 months but I think its the bit about that lady that might be true here

Everyone (apart from me) wants to love it to death, my daughter a major sofite so it needs a boss yeah?

I just text her & told her to find the Obedience club people pronto and to toughen up LOL

The dog is seriously so stupidly ecxited all the time - it goes free at the dog park & always comes when called back but it charges straight at you with a moronic look on its face and SOMETIMES swerves..............
