The end of the checkout signals a dire future for those without the right skills
can only wonder who will shop in the supermarket of the future when no one has a job?

If the big ones do it then the other supermarkets will make having checkout service their selling point or a chain will open to cater for that market.
Thinking of all those mums that fill 1-2 trolleys every week or two, they don't want to stand there and scan all their items after having done a major shop. They will go elsewhere with checkout service.
I'd like to think you are correct but, remember full driveway service petrol stations?

Oh - the days - of someone rushing out.
Filling your tank - it didn't shut off in those days.
Meanwhile washing your windscreen.
etc etc etc.
Edited to say - they even checked your tyres.

Well - it's even going to be not only a slower process - but epic.
I'm now taking my own scales - weighing - geez.
WWS - that is wrong - we assume we are not being ripped off.

We've never had a problem in the past, it's a small town, so hopefully it won't happen again.
We also like the self-serve checkouts as we use egift cards (Woolworths has a 5% off arrangement with senior's card holders), so it's easier to do it ourselves.

Thats good ..... Aldi isnt Au owned BUT they do employ 1000's of Aussie workers, buy AU grown meant n produce etc and their prices cant be beaten. Apparently they are great to deal with if you are a wholesaler, 'cause they pay their accounts on time ...... If I was rich, I might shop at WW or Coles for all my meat and grocery needs but Im not, so I am more than happy to save money by shopping at Aldi and pack my own bags.
Plus I dont like the fact that WW support/own poker machines, so I use them as a last resort

I do exactly the same thing, there has to an order to pack them, when using a trolley I shop in order
to make it easier to go through the register so things are in order.
May have to back track a couple of times but I dont mind.
Wifey prefer the serviced registers, says the price is the same if we had to scan & pack our items,
and by using the the serviced registers they do 2/3rds of the work and keeps people employed.
