My ex joined the Navy in 1963 to get away from South Australia.....a few months ago he sold a beautiful home on the north shore in Sydney to go back there. Heaven pnly knows why. He always said it was too quiet for him but maybe he has changed his mind now that he is in his 70s.
Must admit I loved it whenever we went over there.

the submarine contract will be a help but when you consider businesses that have gone from south australia in the last few years its not even a break even.
many thousands of jobs lost in the automotive industry via the closing of holdens for instance. not just in the holden factory but in hundreds of small businesses that supply goods and services to holdens.
submarines will have very little outside the subcorp itself in business for locals.
defence is quite a closed shop for secrets must be kept. i'm sure there will be some work outsourced but it'll be limited.
you would prolly be suprised at how many people are (or were) employed making cars against those building submarines.
plus the subs are a joint thing with the french, i'm sure quite a lot of the build will happen in france.

Business has no interest in building anyone's economy. Business only has an interest in building profits for their decision-making executives and for their shareholders. The law makes this a fact of life.
It has long ago become obvious that our governments also have no interest in building anything of value for the citizens but only have an interest in building votes for themselves and in building wealth for the Businesses whom they rely upon to give them donations and afterwards, lucrative employment once their term of office expires, and any lie will suffice if it advances this aim.
If they ever actually manage to build anything of value for the citizens then it's only incidental fall-out to their scrabbling after personal gain.
and they wonder why votes are plummeting?

I'm sure he's a nice enough man but labor are doing a shocking job in Victoria. I don't know of anyone who is even remotely happy with their handling of crime, roads or anything else.
