I recently stumbled across WORDLE online. For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.
https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/
This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:
Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though). Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words. I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts. Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

Springy, how did you avoid the 1L trap? (Your #1?)
SpoilerDid one of your guesses rule out double L, or an L in 3rd position?
When I read this, I was scratching my head as this was yesterday's puzzle and I can't remember what all the answers were. But I usually jot down possibilities on a piece of paper so I have been sorting through those/ At first I thought it was apple. Apple must have been #1 at some stage as I have a tick next to it.
But then I looked at your solutions and I see it was wooly (yes, it looks terrible, I agree).
I have droll and folly written down on the same sheet as #1, but both are crossed out. I am not sure how I knew it was wooly, but I remember I did, or strongly suspected it anyway. I may also have eliminated the F, R or D by that stage as I notice I only solved #1 on the 10th turn. I wish there was some way to check my answers but I never took a screenshot. I am actually wondering more why I didn't have drool written there.
I have done today's and I found that a bit of a minefield. I got through it & a lot of the answers are the words that first occurred to me but the problem was the usual one in that there were several possibilities for almost everything.
I took a leap of faith for #1 as it is a word that has been out before, but there was another word I had down as a more remote possibility.
I used another eliminator on my 4th turn, just to clear things up a bit.

Oh, felonious fiddlers, this was such a frustrating Octordle!
There was scarcely any sort of on-flow; solving a word didn’t help much with other words. I had to guess the whole way, and inevitably got one wrong.

I was expecting to score much more badly. There was only one redeeming feature with this Octordle – in that I could guess 2L immediately. It was all downhill from there.

I was off to a bad start.
I played one of my stable of eliminators in an effort to get rid of some blank tiles, and luck was with me.

Well… at least Octordle wasn’t a disjointed goose today. I could work my way through the blocks.

I did wordle in the wee small hours and knew that your standard starter would not yield any letters.
I also knew you wouldn't want me to warn you of this 🙂
edit: I got it in 4

Well… it’s the challenge that I like… so for good or ill, I had to survive that 5 blank start, k1ooo.

I took 4 for wordle yesterday, from memory. I had to do it on the evil new phone as I wasn't home, had an early start at my son's (6.40am). And I am off later today to my daughter's so if I manage to get on tomorrow at all, it will be late.
Today's wordle.

I am surprised I got a score as low as I did as I made several mistakes. I think it must be because I solved The 4th one on my second turn. I had 4 letters, with 2 of them in place, so it wasn't a work of genius.
The rest of it, I felt like there were potential pitfalls on a few of them.
Turn 3 was my usual eliminator and that got me through fine to turn 6.
