What collective term do you use?

What collective term do you use, affectionately and informally, for a group of middle aged women?  Girls is not appropriate, women - too formal, ladies - too "Little Britain", sheilas, chicks - ummmmm  NO! 

Men can be guys, fellows, blokes etc but there doesn't seem to be an equivalent term for females.

oh.. just to note ... I say gaggle in a jest term.... 

I am not sure what a collective of women would be... 

Gaggle refers to geese.

I heard a radio presenter call Joan Rivers an "old boiler" the other day. I thought that was an insulting term, altho appropriate for Joan, IMO.

of course, either can be used for the crap tasks.

Yes, the why? was really why is it OK to call anyone an old boiler.
