there used to be a competition on UK radio, where they set a problem and then people dialled in with the answer - anyone who got it right won a big$ prize. ALL the time I was watching / listening I didn't see anyone win it? It may be still on ? It went something like this:
ADD ALL THE NUMBERS
TWELVE TIMES TWO
PLUS SIXTEEN
MINUS SEVEN
At the end of the show they gave out the answer - but I won't tell you yet
did anyone have a go? Can anyone solve it?

ADD ALL THE NUMBERS - 12 + 2 + 16 + 7 = 37
TWELVE TIMES TWO - 37 X 2 = 74
PLUS SIXTEEN - 74 + 16 = 90
MINUS SEVEN 90 - 7 = 83

I've just had some cobwebs blown away, and it wasn't on here - it was on a music site that I used to visit in UK. And Ade (a member) saw it on UK TV and put it up on the chat board to see if any members could solve it.
So, you can stop racking your brains about an eBay member named Ade 😉
The text was exactly as follows in colour.
ADD ALL THE NUMBERS
TWELVE TIMES TWO
PLUS SIXTEEN
MINUS SEVEN

ADD ALL THE NUMBERS - 12 + 2 + 16 + 7 = 37
TWELVE TIMES TWO - 37 X 2 = 74
PLUS SIXTEEN - 74 + 16 = 90
MINUS SEVEN 90 - 7 = 83
MUCH MUCH higher ....

I must add that I never solved it - I got very close but no cigar.
My thoughts were that the NUMBERS may have meant from other number systems like ROMAN numbers too.

897?
on 14-04-2013 09:43 AM
406

897?
HIGHER

Roman Numerals
I 1
V 5
X 10
L 50
C 100
D 500
M 1,000
or any combination of these

eg there are 2 'M' so that's 2,000 plus all the others.
