i hate gambling

Apparently that makes me a bad person. Oh well, obviously hating gambling is similar to being a pedophile. Maybe I should be publicily executed for being such a vile and wicked person

I can't see how you could compare it to a pedophile and where you got that thought,(IMHO a pedo should be

strung up by the you know what over a cliff where there are sharks waiting below).

Hating gambling is a personnel choice and shouldn't be judged by anyone else.

There are a few people I know that wish that pokies were never introduced to Victoria,(one couple went from

happy go lucky to depressive as they lost their savings, their house and their love of live).

I only treat gambling as a bit of fun and only ever bet with what I can afford to lose,(anyone that thinks they can

win big is dreaming).

Re: i hate gambling

I went on a Bus trip to the Crown Casino when it first opened. $15.- return fare and free lunch at the Crown.

Was interesting, but not very entertaining. Too much noise, hundreds of slot machines and the tables are in the same room area. I finished up exploring the place and ended up on the High Roller floor. A security guard quickly showed me where the lift to the exit was.But the buffet lunch was great.

After I married Peter, he told me he had never been to the Crown. LOL, he was born in Melbourne and lived there until we got married. Last month I had to go to Melbourne for tests, so we decided to go to the Casino before going back home. Peter was amazed at the size of the place and the enormous noise. It is certainly not a place to relax and have some fun.

At home we go to our Pub every four or six weeks. They have a great Seniors Meal for $14.- per head a choice of six different meals and a free glass of wine, beer or softdrink. That leaves us $22.- change out of 50 and we spend it on the pokies. Sometimes we win a little and take it home, having enjoyed a free dinner and a bit of fun.

Life is a gamble, but one has to know when to take a risk.

If living creatures did not take a risk we would still be amoeba in the primordial slime.

Pretty boring. even if you are an amoeba

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

The thing that disturbs me more than gambling is using gambling to excuse the fact that you stole money, lied and when you got caught you cry" I'm an addict,  I couldn't help it".

or the really good excuse....."I made a mistake" or the other one " I did nothing wrong" to cover theft of $1000's of dollars.

It would appear that gambling is another of some intransigent posters beliefs. 🙂

That it's' good?

That it's bad?

Or that it exists?

Re: i hate gambling

A friend took me to Crown Casino just for a look, like Erica said, too much noise, too many machines and tables, couldnt get out of there quick enough.

I couldnt tell you the first thing about playing the pokies, I have no interest in learning about them either.

That, you would have to ask someone who is intransigent 🙂

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Many years ago I saw an interview with legendary singer Del Shannon. At the time, his son was employed at a casino in Atlantic City. While on duty on the graveyard shift,he could hear jackpots going off on the slot machines.Only trouble was the place was nearly empty. The casino was playing that sound to give the impression there were winners everywhere.

What a great singer Del Shannon was.  I saw him live at a club in Canberra (I can only assume he was down on his luck at the time because NO ONE came to Canberra in those days).  His voice was a good as it ever was.  Many many years later he talked about his years in an alcoholic haze....including when he came to Canberra....a time that frankly he could barely remember.  You would never have guessed it.  Singers from those days not only had to be able to sing, they had to be as good live as on records.  No autotune! Somehow despite the booze he still was.

I can't stand crowds or too much noise these days so Crown Casino is not for me.  I used to play the pokies a few times in the clubs on the NSW/VIC border - with 10c pieces saved up for just that purpose.  We always seemed to come home with just as many coins as we started with. LOL

My favourite game for many years was Tatts Keno once a fortnight from the local newsagent.  I won $350 once on a $5 ticket which was nice.  When it went to Intralot I stopped buying them.  I had an aunt who was extrordinarily lucky with Tatts wins and the pokies.  I don't have that kind of luck so I rarely bother beyond once or twice a year.  If I'm in the right place at the right time I'll buy a Tatts Superdraw ticket, but I won't go out of my way to get one.

My friends won $333,000  a few years ago.  They bought a hotel.  I suppose that's an indication of how long ago that was.
