......
something comes of it- this has gone on for far too long in too many countries.
*waiting patiently for Pell to come unstuck*
What I never hear is Catholics themselves being up in arms about all the abuse. it doesnt happen. the flock are mostly silent.

4% in the general population? You're kidding. One in four children is sexually abused. Do the maths.

I have seen figures stated as one in three. Google if you doubt the figure I gave.

Eve, that is one organisation. and it's in New York. where's the rest of them?
That particular chapter is based in New York but it is a world wide movement. There is one in UK and Australia that I know of. There are also many others such as Voice of the Faithful whose primary role is to focus on Catholic child sex abuse cases. I have relatives in Europe, I could ask them about similar organisations/movements over there.

Duff, I understand that this topic is very important to you.
My (rhetorical) question to you though is, what exactly are you doing about it?
Your efforts may be more constructive if you actually did something - talk is cheap.

It is probably a personal thing and not for CS to be told what anyone is doing about it?
Most of us have an area where we are passionate about something but prefer not to advertise it here?

i did say it was a rhetorical question

At first I was shocked at the stats but then, how many of us here personally knows someone or someone who knows someone that has been sexually abused as a child? I know of a couple where the victim's family or family friends were involved. Child trafficking. What are the stats there? 2006 World's Children Report states there are 2 million children sexually trafficked worldwide.

so 4% of all priests have been accused of abuse - that's 4 in 100. Some of the priests probably had more than one victim, which would account for a higher number of victims than actual perpetrators.
If 1 in 4 children of the general population have been abused, couldn't this be the same sort of thing? ie that there are more victims than offenders?
But still - WOW those statistics for society in general are pretty alarming, eh? I had no idea it was that many. That's 25% of the population THAT HAVE SPOKEN UP (no doubt there would be many who haven't or whose claims were not believed etc)
Even going on there being 4% of the population who are offenders - that's more than 5 million sexual offenders just here in Australia!

that less than 4% off all priests that have been accused, which report did that come from? was it the one in the US? cant remember what its called now.
