What I never hear is Catholics themselves being up in arms about all the abuse. it doesnt happen. the flock are mostly silent.

the Brothers of St John had more than 4 per cent involvement. the victorian enquiry makes for some grim reading atm. all of the class teachers bar one were known offenders at that school.

i can't see them defending that, and i notice they don't try.

~ sexual abuse is just so prevalent in the Catholic Church, and the church is infamous for covering it up. call it a preoccupation of mine crikey. I live for the day that church falls from grace, and comes totally unstuck :^O

Catholicism is so far from Christs teachings- if he was alive to today...or when he comes back 😉 the last place we'll see him hanging out will be in Vatican. lol.

so 4% of all priests have been accused of abuse - that's 4 in 100. Some of the priests probably had more than one victim, which would account for a higher number of victims than actual perpetrators.

If 1 in 4 children of the general population have been abused, couldn't this be the same sort of thing? ie that there are more victims than offenders?

But still - WOW those statistics for society in general are pretty alarming, eh? I had no idea it was that many. That's 25% of the population THAT HAVE SPOKEN UP (no doubt there would be many who haven't or whose claims were not believed etc)

Even going on there being 4% of the population who are offenders - that's more than 5 million sexual offenders just here in Australia!

not by my calculations - if one in four people are abused, that's 1/4 of the population - so 5 million people is 1/4 of 20 million... (I know we have a slightly higher population than that, but couldn't be bothered googling, so just generalized)
