Is there a cut off point at night when they are not allowed to ring?
i am curious as we had 1 tonight at 9.30
yes we are on the do not call register, the only time we get peace is when i ring telstra and complain then they put a trace on our phone then the calls stop for a few months then they start again.

I wonder how many people who get harrassed by telemarketers have brought this on themselves?
How? Well, who have you given your phone number to? How many "loyalty cards" do you have? A Myer card? a Priceline family chemist card? A Woolworths rewards card, maybe? How many others?
You know you have to give out your personal info to get these cards, yes, including your phone number.
And what do you suppose happens to that phone number? It becomes a saleable commodity and be assured, it is sold on . . . to the very same companies who spam you with phone calls every evening just as you're sitting down to dinner.
Think about it.
I have an unlisted number and absolutely no "loyalty cards" and, I don't get one single harrassing phone call from telemarketers, ever.

Being on the Do Not Call register does not stop all "legitimate" calls.
It won't prevent charities or research companies, or companies you have dealt with.
Most real companies that it is allowed to block, will respect it once they know, and the lists are updated every few months.
If I receive a telemarketing call that isn't a scammer, I ask for the name of the company and the person's name. I then politely tell them the number is on Do Not Call and to not call again. I make a note of the info and the time. If they call again I report it to the Do Not Call people. That was their advice after I was being hounded by Optus.

You should call your council and ask if it is illegal where you are.
In a lot of places it is legal to enter a property to the front door. It really depends on where you live.
If you have a do not knock sign, even if not legally binding, some firms will respect it.

I have rented a small office in a building in Havana, Cuba.
In that office there's a desk, a telephone and a telephone answering machine.
Once a week, an old man called Manuel goes to the office and presses the "erase all messages" button on the answering machine.
I'm not saying I hate telephones, but there are lengths to which I am willing to go to, to avoid answering them. *
*This is a parody. Shameless, aren't I? But in a way it is a good idea, if you think about it.
