black screen

Hi all

My desktop keeps reverting to a black screen..I have done a revert but it still changes to black after about an hour. This has never happened before. Anyone know what is causing it please...? I have a desktop comp.. Windows 7 home premium...

OK...it could be one of several things.

1. Do a full virus scan if your computer is operational to check for malware, do this in safe mode if needs be

2. Your graphics card may be on the way out, or the driver is playing up

3. Try unplugging any external hardware to see if that's causing a conflict

4. Do you have a blinking cursor, or just a blank screen?

There are a range of solutions on the internet for black screen with or without the cursor, try googling "windows 7 black screen home premium" and a bit will show up 🙂 can't help more specifically, hopefully someone else can.

Hi Amber. Thanks for taking the time... My desktop is BLACK not blank....I think ( could ber way off here) that it has something to do with pirated windows software ( I had nothing to do with this by the way. It was on the comp when I purchased it 12 months ago....)

I am NOT very Comp literate so I am just guessing here....

OK, that could be a problem...have you tried going to the windows site and verifying your copy of windows?

Yes, I know it is black, sorry did say blank meant black...

If you check your software out, you'll know for sure if that is why.

Is where to do it, all the other stuff in my first post is valid for your black screen issue 🙂 if pirate software is not the problem

Hi Amber eyes...( My Grandaughter has eyes just like that)

I have accessed the link and it says it is not validated and they want $149.00 to buy one.. Before I do that though, I will be speaking very quickly to my IT professional....He sold me the comp with Windows already installed . I would have assumed that the software HAD been Validated... Seems I was wrong...Thanks for your help...

Can't understand though why it took 12 months for Microsoft to detect this when I have been getting updates all along,...

Hi , i suggest reinstall the original Windows version. Then aqcuire and install an upgrade WIndows if desired

This will remove licensing issues and any spat with the MS validation bot,.  and also erase existing system file errors, possible zombie virus control etc

Then appraise computer operating characteristics

Consult your owner manual for restore / recovery options - if oem VISTA (as noted on the MS license key sticker attached somewhere on the case) you might be able to restore Windows as per factory spec - and so fully supported by MS and the computer manufacturer) by running a program accessed while starting the computer and clicking designated keys

you can note your computer manufacturer and model number here if insure of the website to download the user manual

There can be perils for the unwary if purchasing a used computer

Windows asks for validation at the start, but it can be bypassed, then it will do sporadic validation checks now and then, with the updates...that can explain why it took this long if you do have a non-legit version.

If you have the installation discs, yes, try a fresh install...but if pirated you will get the same problem eventually.

If you tried the validate link, which you did :), it also says that if you have a genuine version, sometimes the validation components may be over time corrupted or moved, so it can appear non-valid, even if genuine.

Go to the windows site to see how to fix that, but it will require a repair, either from the genuine discs or the windows site.

Sorry to hear that it is likely not genuine, but check that first, just in case you do just need to repair.
Talk to the guys you bought it from.
