Here is an easy one....from the Jukebox.

"I know you're an emotional girl,
It took a lot for you, to not lose
your faith in this world."

California Dreamin'

The Mamas and the Papas

A bit of trivia: according to a recent documentary the Momas & the Papas were a studio based band who only peformed live about a dozen times (plus miming on tv shows).

I doubt that this was because they were a bad live act. Judging by the film of the Monterey Pop festival, they did a pretty good job.

Crosby apparently Momma Cass was not keen on performing live, she got over it. American TV has always preferred miming, go figure.

Hi Misslinda. I guess the miming thing is so that the tv stations have complete control of what is broadcast, with no surprises. I'd much rather hear a band live though, warts 'n all.

Here's a bit of their Monterey performance. Everyone looks like they're having a good time:

I would've loved to have gone to Monterey,Woodstock and the Isle Of Wight festivals.

You have to remember also that when the Mamas and Papas were around just about all the music you saw performed "live" on Australian TV was pretty well almost always mimed.

I saw most of the top bands that came to melbourne in the 60's, local and imported, mainly from England...Herman's Hermits, etc. I was also at the Sunbury Pop Festival, that was memorable. You can't beat live music.

We has VicOpera here last year for a performance of Carmen, unfortunately the lead performers were all ill, so, we got a bit of this and a bit of that, it was wonderful.
