It's on the passenger side and broken at the neck, stuck with tape at the moment which keeps unsticking despite I'm using Gorilla Tape. . . I drive a Toyota Echo 2005 but am wondering if I have to replace this unit with
my model one, or can I get a used from a wrecker's or somewhere of a different car (*thus cheaper).
The glass is okk but I also want the convex replaced with flat, so probably considering a new (used) unit.
Anyt tips welcome as i know nothing about these things and couldn't do it myself unfortunately.

As long as there are no sharp edges and it performs it's task as well as the original you can go with any door mirror.
One of a ke70 roller/early hiluz will fit pretty well anything. The hardest part will making it look neat...hint use the part that attaches it now as a blankong plate and fit the mirror and stalk to it

adr codes below

governing rule is adr 14
ADR 14—Rear Vision Mirrors
The function of this Australian Design Rule is to specify requirements for rear vision mirrors to provide the driver with a clear and reasonably unobstructed view to the rear.
long winded version below....nowhere will it state that replacement of the mirror with an aftermarket one will not pass a
roadworthy test. However it must be fit to perform its task

a REAL mechanic ...or a helpful wrecker should be able to help you

I forgot to add it will cost an arm and a leg at the glaziers to try to get a convex piece of glass removed. I have used these stick on replacements lots. It will work to modify the mirror if the original mirror glass is physically flat but gives the convex perception they cost about 12 bucks for 8 x 5 in the shops

I don't think it's dear i thought it would cost a lot more. Also they said they will send it in plain glass.
Those stick on glass kits are marvellous, I hadn't heard of them before.
I got a quote from Toyota to replace the whole assembly and it was gasp $550. They're rogues.
So once this one arrives I will have a go at fixing it on DIY ......I found another clip on Youtube that
makes it look really easy.
Thanks again

Bill, thanks so much for your encouraging words. i was only being silly making all that fuss as I thought that first youtube clip was really a laugh, but then so did they. I certainly will have a go - I was a bit thrown as they talk about a tool needed ...a socket ratchet thing...... but as you say it's just a spanner, so someone around here is sure to have one.
Kopes, what a gem you are ..... I actually live in the next suburb to Brighton, on Brighton Road, I didn't know you were in Melbourne. Mmmmmm I'm thinking of all the things I can bother you with ...... no,just kidding..... but it's so nice of you to offer and if I get stuck I may well contact you.
I'll let you know the outcome once the unit arrives which may take a while.
