why doesn't ebay return the selling fees if the item is returned and refinded?

terencem58, you will need to contact eBay personally to make the request for a final value fee credit. It will not happen automatically.
Do not email. Emails to eBay are an exercise in frustration.
You should contact eBay during business hours (8 am to 10 pm, 7 days a week) using the Have Us Call You option. Politely explain that item number [insert item number] was returned by the buyer, and you issued the buyer with a full refund, and you hereby request that the final value fees be credited to you.
