Ebay's Feedback System

Do you think Ebay will ever restore the feedback system to how it use to be 'FAIR'. ?

Sellers not be allowed to leave a negative feedback for a buyer is as every seller know's completely unfair.

Both buyers and sellers should have the same rights, to leave feedback on their transaction. If a seller has had a bad experience with a non- paying buyer or one of 1000 others reason's why can't this be reflected on the buyers feedback?

If I could see that a buyer has many neg's I would block them from my store.

Shouldn't a seller have that option?

I dunno if any of you guys know about Internet Memes - these are the LOLcats and all the other clever stuff (including Patchoo's avatar) that start to become mainstream.

One of the more recent memes is the "First World Problem"...

Re: Ebay's Feedback System

I think it's for the best that sellers can't neg buyers any more...

However, there is really no point in buyers getting feedback at all, if it can only be 100% positive. It doesn't tell other members anything usueful. Feedback for buying should be stopped altogether.

If a buyer habitually does not pay, or otherwise makes a serial nusiance of him/herself they should simply be suspended.

hmmmmm . . . interesting idea!  However, I don't think that will happen for a number of reasons.  One is that I think that feedback is part of the eBay experience for new members.  The novelty of collecting those little green dots does wear off, which is why you get a different coloured star when you reach certain levels.  It is all a ploy to encourage participation in eBay . . . . . a bit like the lights and sounds on a Pokie machine!  Keep buyers happy and they will keep buying.

Do a search for TORQUE WRENCH 1/2 INCH DRIVE MADE BY NORBAR for REPCO IN ENGLAND EX++++ and listen to the Weird Al eBay song that plays when you view the listing.  Listen to it a few times for the references to feedback.  It's a real crack up.

So true. I also had 100% until recently. I sent an item via Australia post, which arrived damaged (a $7.00 Hotwheels car). No contact at all does not give the buyer to rectify any unforseen problems like damage during delivery. Unreasonable-----full of it buyer!!! In view of his reply, I am no longer interested in offering a refund. I will just "enjoy" my feedback as it stands.

Instead of being critical of the buyer, and system and everybody else, it would be much more useful if you think about packing your items properly.  Item damaged in the post is almost always the sender's fault.

Re: Ebay's Feedback System

... Why give credence to a small herd of posters that have not the intestinal fortitude to use the main ids to give "advice" on these forums over those posters in these forums who do post using their main selling id..... in fact many of those posters may only have one id to buy, to sell and to post ?????

Nothing to do with intestinal fortitude (and a few prunes usually clears that anyway), when I first stated posting on the Aus boards using my selling id the first time I said something some people didn't like all of my posts, even if they contained nothing but a single bit of advice,  were reported for advertising my items for sale and even though I was only selling second hand clothes on a very small scale back then I wasn't about to risk my account being suspended because I had the temerity to suggest that I thought a seller should pay return postage if they made a mistake!!!!!!

Enough people, including yourself Viewmont, know one or more of my other ids to know very well that I have more than enough experience of ebay to give advice. the issue of feedback in this context is not even about advice but about opinion and everyone is entitled to their own which they are perfectly at liberty to state and defend.

its pretty obvious why and i can certainly understand the reasons some dont use their selling ID to post on the boards.

Especially the ones that lets say, love a bit of a debate.

Theres some very vindictive people around that dont like to be disagreed with or told they are wrong.

A heap of purchases and subsequent negs on your selling account could cause some real problems.

So some think it safest not to risk it.

I learnt that lesson about 10 years ago, when I was helping somebody and for some reason (which I never worked out) they took offence to the wording of my posts and started a personal vendetta.

It went on for months and I copped a bunch of Negs, and had to retire my main ID from selling for a year until the negs cleared. Not sure about what would happen now, but in those days ebay never removed bad feedback, so I just had to cop it.

Lots of members post on these boards with selling IDs and have absolutely no problems. It's not like it's especially dangerous... but if you are like me (or some others like me) who "call a spade a spade", it's easy to get into an argument with a newbie.

This is especially common if they perceive the advice given as a personal attack. Often people have come to these forums to get assistsance after getting themselves into a mess, and they don't realise that pointing out WHY it happened is critical so that other readers learn and avoid the same mistake.

I'd love a dollar for each of the newbies who I've got into battles with about Paypal or eBay policies. I only tell them what the rules are, I'm not making any judgement about whether the rules are "right or wrong"... we all have to work within the same rules, and if we don't then we cop the consequences.

So now I just post with this coopers ID that I sometimes buy stuff on. It's my lowest feedback ID, but I don't care. People are free to accept advice or not, and it's no skin off my nose if they ignore me because I don't appear to have any trading experience ๐Ÿ™‚

You'll also see certain other regulars poking fun at those of us who refuse to post with selling IDs, trying to discredit us. This is unfortunate because in many cases the ones taking the swipes are relatively inexperienced, and it perpetuates the problem of people making judgements about people rather than judging based on the relevance of the advice given. But once again, I don't care - it just goes with the territory.

The problem is eBay management don't care! If there was a legitimate competition to warrant concern for them, they would make changes. They don't listen to sellers. But the day that a really decent competitor arrives, I think a lot of sellers will vacate eBay never to return.
