Global shipping

Why are sellers continuing to use the Global shipping program when it is a blatant rip off and is hurting their prospects of overseas sales?
I live in Australia and collect a well known English brand product.
Lately, I have been buying less as sellers are sending them by the GSP which charges up to nearly 3 times what the same item would cost via Royal Mail international tracked and signed for air mail.

For example, I recently looked at a part I needed which weighed only a few grams. The part would have cost me £45 and for it to be sent via GSP would have set me back another £25.92 + an “import charge” of £8.85 bringing the total cost to £79.77

To send it via Royal Mail international tracked would have cost £10.80 and, with the value being under £100, no import charge making the total to me £55.80.
I have already seen complaints on this forum about Ebay taking a fair amount in fees from seller for the postage and leaving them out of pocket as well. It would seem that the only advantage of the GSP is to Ebay and no one else.
I hope that more sellers will see the GSP for what it really is and dump it. It would greatly benefit all.

I too buy from the UK and US and live in Australia, I buy from a few sellers who use the GSP and it is ridiculously expensive so now I contact the seller prior to bidding/purchasing and ask if i bid and win several items will they will cancel purchases and combine into a one "reserved' listing which I re-purchase.  This does work and if the seller is savvy they will do this for you. worth a try 🙂

Re: Global shipping

Well… it might seem like a logical thing to call them, but no one would refer to FC Bayern München as Bavaria Munich.

Some would call it FC Bayern, or Bayern Munich. Those are fine to use. The proper name is Fußball-Club Bayern München e. V.

The easiest ways to refer to it would be Die Bayern (pronounced di buy-ern) or … and this will be no surprise … Die Roten (pron. di raw-ten) which means The Red Ones or The Reds.

They’re red and they’re fast!

Re: Global shipping

I've a little luck lately with UK sellers telling them what the GSP charge is to Australia and (thank goodness) they changed the postage to RM Tracked.

Alas I have another UK collectable I'd like to buy which is very small though not cheap (especially with the UK/AU exchange rate) but to add to that the GSP charge is $72 then there's the GST.  I've asked the seller if she would consider using Royal Mail Tracked but got no reply.  She's had no luck selling to the domestic market, and it's been on eBay a few times...so far.  I expect it will come up again soon. 🙂

LOL - we'll now expect the use of ' Deutschland ' - when referring to Germany.
