Hi All,
I had an item listed for $ X amount and the buyer to pay $9.70 postage. While I was in the process of revising my add someone bought the item for $ X amount and free postage. I'm assuming that while I had the postage section blank (while searching the Aust Post website, about 10 minutes) Ebay has somehow used the revised add, which I hadn't finished revising. Has anyone heard of this happening before? and what would be my best course of action?
Thank You.

I contacted customer service and explained the situation and they said that i should contact my customer and ask for the postage cost to be paid. How ridiculous, it's not their fault. They went on to say that i should have cancelled the order. I said that that would reflect badly on my metrics to which they said that they would have removed any negatives.
They went on to say that ads are always active even when being revised. I asked if that was the case if there were any blank sections and they said yes.
Be careful when revising as Ebay is never at fault.

I'm not sure why it took you 10 minutes to change $9.70 to $10.60, or why you left it blank at all. This is information you should have to hand before revising. I did all mine in bulk on the Sunday evening.
Your best course would probably to take the hit and fulfil the sale. Failing that, cancel and take the hit to your metrics.

Thanks for the feedback. I should have been clearer. I was seeing how much registered post was or other options, as I was going to change asking price and postage to improve my chances of selling the item. Ebay doesn't give me all postage options.

As stated, don't leave fields blank. CHANGE them when you know what you're doing. For example, registered post is not an option for parcels, nor is eBay a useful source for pricing.

I doubt that any field would be amended, until you actually click revise it to complete the amendments.
If you are referring to your sale of the 11th of July (today) the last amendment to the listing was on the 26th of June.
Your other sale on the 6th of July, the listing was last amended on the 15th of June.
So there does not appear to be a sale anywhere near a time of revision. But if you still think it is the case, contact ebay CS via live chat and see if they can see anything different.

Changes don't occur until you actually hit the save button, and as gutter said your last change was 26 june. Me thinks you already had free postage, like 90% of your other listings

Thanks all for your input. I actually took a screen shot of the original ad. I hit revise and was sorting through the postage rates and while it was blank, someone bought it. They actually chose their own postage rate, that I was to pay. They were good enough to pick the cheapest postage with tracking. I would have thought as soon as you hit revise the add would be taken down until you hit revise again. I decided to wear the postage cost and mailed it today.

Glad to see you found a solution. Even though the alleged solutions aren't.
