eBay will be introducing a new fee structure on May 1, 2013.
For some sellers fees will be going up, while others will see notable reductions. We encourage you to take the time to visit the newly launched Seller Centre to see how the changes will affect you (http://sellercentre.ebay.com.au/fs5).
You will notice that to offset the fee change, we have worked to remove the major barriers to listing and have continued to reduce upfront fees to make selling on eBay easier and fairer. Most sellers should only be paying fees on an item after it sells – not before.
Your fees contribute to eBay’s ability to significantly invest in the overall experience for both sellers and buyers. Enhancements on the buyer side of the equation are aimed squarely at driving traffic to your listings and ensuring the 7.3 million Australians who visit the site every month continue to do so. For example, investments in marketing, social media promotions and mobile commerce applications helped sellers to capture a greater share of online sales in 2012 and saw a 21% year on year increase of visits to eBay.
After reviewing the changes it should be clear that the new fee structure also encourages sellers to adopt the behaviours that we know buyers increasingly prefer (eg: fixed price over auction in some categories) – therefore increasing your chances of a successful sale.
In 2013 we will be working even harder to respond to the rapid pace of change in our industry and to ensure you are taken along on the journey. You will see a number of innovations announced in the coming months and throughout the year which support all of our sellers, no matter what their size or business aspirations.”

Selective memory at work maybe.
I recall there has always been some level of sympathy on the boards over the years for the numerous changes that have disadvantaged many media sellers ???

I just discovered that eBay has hiked up it's fees ridiculously to take effect from 1st May thanks to reading an online article on a news website. WHERE IN THE HELL IS MY NOTIFICATION EMAIL ABOUT THIS???
I have just looked over the new fee structure and all I can say is you must be joking, I had around $60k in high end camera equipment I was planning on selling over the coming months and I will sure as hell not be paying $250 per item in eBay fees plus additional Paypal fees, eBay all I can say is you are now a dead horse and I sure as hell will not be listing anything ever again you greedy bastards. GREAT JOB IN LOSING LOYAL CUSTOMERS and around $4.5k in old rate sales fees from the stuff I was about to sell! Gumtree here I come........

What a disappointment!!
I sell second hand clothes in excellend condition. I buy them at garage sales, fetes, etc - usually pay about $2 and list them at about that
I am quite happy to get my money back plus a little more, but NOW ... buy at $2.00 - pay eBay $1.50 - sell for $3.00. WHO GAINS??? !! Certainly not me !!
Get real eBay - you should be encouraging people to sell more, not less !!!

The fees are about encouraging people to change the way they sell more than anything else. If you list frequently on eBay, it's true that fees will be higher for some, but they'll be lower for others, and others still won't be affected much at all. You really need to look at all the changes - not just the increased FVF percentage - to see how you can still work the site to your best advantage.
To ozbarganz - look at the fee table for stores. If you've got 60k of camera equipment, look into opening a store. Even a Basic store with give you 80 free listings and mean you will only pay 6% FVF on your sales over $200 (items under $200 will be 9.5%). That is a pretty big break being given only to those selling Technical Accessories.
dotm - after May 1st, as a Power Seller, you'll be able to access 40 free listings per month. You currently have 57 listed and 93 completed in the last couple of weeks. I didn't check how many were unsold / relisted, but as you're a Power Seller, you'd currently be paying insertion fees on all listings - so at least around $75.
If you had a Featured store, you'd pay $50 a month and get 200 free listings. That's an immediate difference in fees, but you'd have to list as BIN and decide prices for yourself rather than auction.
If people are upset about the fee changes, I'm presuming it means they want to sell. If you want to keep selling, look at how you can continue to do so at the greatest advantage to yourself.

Ebay need to think Telecom/Telstra, you can have a monopoly and sadly Ebay do, Quicksales is useless for us (not one sale in over a year). Telstra had this for many years and abused it (take note Ebay) and now that Telstra do have competition they have lost alot of business and have recently had to reduce broadband plans by 20 - 30% to stay competitve.
