On my other id I have sold an item as a BIN, postage cost quoted in listing, buyer has paid, with no questions or contact until I marked her parcel as posted, tonight I receive an email asking "do I refund excess postage"
I note that this statement is mentioned in her last feedback left.
Actual cost to me was $1.55 more than she paid, would like some help in how to answer this question, the right way.

Using your theory why would any seller trust eBay they were dishonest about store fees?
There is nothing dishonest about business setting their fees for service. That fee applies to all sellers equally.
However if one seller sells item for $1 with $19 postage and then posts it for $1.20 (with wrapping, lets say $2 total cost), while other seller sells the same item for $18 with $2 postage charge. The honest seller obviously makes less money. That is why it is against eBay rules. And yes I have a choice not to buy, but as seller I pay my monthly fees, and I am competing against these cheats.
Casual eBay buyers have no idea what postage should be so they bid believing the seller has given accurate quote, if they pay $10 for postage and the item arrive in envelope with couple of stamps, they have a full right to mark seller's stars down.
If you find that somebody lied to you, you have a full right to be angry.

I suppose doubling store fees was due to those nasty postage pirates nothing to do with greed.
The doubling of store fees, along with all the other changes, means I am paying far less in fees than I was same time last year when store fee was $19.99, listing fee was 40c and FVF was 7.9%. I also have a couple of auctions running and those are now 50c instead of $1.09 plus of course I can list 30 items on another id with zero insertion fees.
I absolutely agree that gross overcharging for postage is wrong and buyers should mark down the relative DSR accordingly but in financial terms it makes no difference to the buyer in the long run.
As for saying ebay is all about making money? Well of course it is, do you think their shareholders invest in the company for altruistic reasons, of course not. they want a decent return for their investment and if ebay don't keep increasing revenue they will sell their shares and there will be no ebay.

sorry somewhat off the topic, but it is linked to this thread, in which it is clear that a regular forum poster is using two separate posting IDs.
Why would a poster use two separate posting IDs ?

So its ok for a seller to buy an item for $1 and sell it for $100 but its a crime against humanity if they charge more than the exact postage.
Yes it is ok for a seller to purchase an item for $1 and sell it for $100.
That is called business and no one is forcing a buyer to pay the asking price, it is their choice.

Not sure who are you talking about. Well, some numpties do it deliberately trying to strengthen their argument (usually when their argument does not stack up). Or it can happen when somebody logs off their posting ID does some listing on their selling ID, answers a phone, goes to shop and then goes back to the forum forgetting they are now in different ID. Good idea to click the preview button and check that you are logged in with your posting ID, before hitting the post button. ๐

Not sure about the first reason outlined - if that is the reason then IMO their advice, opinions and posts should be ignored or reported - as none of it is given in good faith - rather posts are made "to be the one that is right" and/or for trolling X-( rather than posts that provided considered advice, based on experience and are posted in good faith.
Re the second scenario, no - in this case, with IDs involved, it is very clear that there are two posting ids - no selling involved.

People posting with 2 different IDs in one topic usually quote the other's ID's post, and it happens when the discussion gets bit heated, I cannot see that happening in this thread. Just because people agree with each other does not mean that they are same person. I pretty much agree on most topics with PJ, and believe me I am not PJ ๐

So it appears when eBay maximise their fees its business but when a seller reduces their costs its cheating. The only reason itโs an eBay rule is because it increases eBay fees. (PS fees aren't equal for all sellers, no fees for Sellers in China, and US top-rated Sellers get a 20% discount, just to mention a couple, better get them all banned as they don't pay the same fees as you) There might even be sellers who buy their stock at less than you, better stop them from selling on eBay as well as they also have unfair advantage over you

gec2002 when you sign up on eBay you agree to the fees charged for the service you use, as well as working within the parameters eBay sets.
yes, people in other countries have signed up under slightly different rules. Actually, you are free to list on eBay.com or eBay.com.UK or in China, why don't you, if the rules for Australia are so unfair.

Well, you are wrong, I am not that other ID. I only have one posting ID.
