Parcel Insurence?

Have a buyer who paid an Extra $3.50 for Registration on a parcel which Aus Post no longer do. I sent the parcel Signature On Delivery but my concern is she was looking for Insurence after I had a think about it.. Can you take out Insurence without Signature On Delivery? I wouldnt think so and tried my best to explain it to her. The Item was won for $4.26. I charged $8.45 Standart Postage a very old listing likely 12 months or more old. Should have used Aus Post Calculator on this one as it left Adelaide to go to North Queensland. I received her Money Order $16.20 and when I Used Click And Send it ended costing $14.75. But I suppose S*** Happens. I am in the process of offering Aus Post Calculator for all Parcel listings..

You can indeed take out extra insurance without signature required if you wish, it costs $1.50 per each $100 or part thereof if you are sending regular small parcel. SOD does give cover up to $100 and anyway as long as the buyer paid with Paypal it is you that needs any extra cover, the buyer has protection.

It has only been available for a fairly short time.

I'd say it's more likely your buyer requested registered to ensure a more secure delivery rather than for insurance on a <$5 item (unless it was worth significantly more than that), and if so, signature on delivery is the closest equivalent.

Australia Post recently started allowing a standard parcel (that is, not flat rate ebay satchels / boxes) to be insured for up to $300 without signature on delivery being purchased, but to be insured for more than $300, SOD has to be used as well.

If a flat rate satchel / box is used via C&S, the signature on delivery option includes up to $100 insurance.
