It definitely depends on the size and format of the image(s). Bitmap images take a lot of memory, several megabytes depending on the image size, whereas .jpg and .gif formats take up significantly less memory for images of the same size.
As a rough estimate, a 1000 x 1000 pixel .jpg image can be around 250kb - 500kb - taking a median size of 350kb, you could store around 3000 images of that size, or maybe around 220 bitmap images of the same size.

Seems silly to pay for image hosting when you can get it for free elsewhere.
In fact, for $10 per month you might as well just get paid web hosting like I use. I am paying $7 per month for UNLIMITED storage and traffic, plus I have multiple domains, unlimited email accounts, my own webmail, forums, blog, etc etc.
