I sell knives.
Some of them have bone handles.
I received an email last night saying a 3 day restriction on selling had been placed on me for three days for contravention of eBay IVORY Policy:
"After reviewing your eBay account, it appears that you have violated eBay's Ivory policy. As a result, we've taken the following actions on your account: - Selling privileges have been temporarily restricted. You won't be able to list new items for 3 days. You're also not allowed to register a new account during this time. - Item listings have been removed. A list of removed items is available further down in this email. - Any fees for listings ended early because of this violation will not be credited to your account. Items made from, or containing any kind of ivory, are not allowed. Ivory products may not be offered on eBay because of various international trade restrictions and treaties banning the sale of these items. To learn more about our animals and wildlife products policy, go to: http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/policies/wildlife.html ...
(blah, blah, blah until it comes to):
Here are the listings we removed.
221869953319 - Sharp Collectable 10” MOON CREST Curved Knife Awesome Blade NON IVORY MIB
321850170508 - 12.5" Santa FE HUNTER Bowie Knife White Bone Handle With Leather Sheath NIB"
Let me put it this way. The link says "You must explicitly state it's NOT IVORY..." - Look at the first item's title.
The second title was picked up again a couple of months ago, so I fixed the text in the listing to say "this is NOT an IVORY product". All underlined and in uppercase, which is permissible.
I tried to get answers from eBay only to be told to wait 24-48 hours for an answer
In the meanwhile, I cannot upload any new listings.
eBay, what's wrong with you? Unbelievable idiocy!

Yes it can but you need to first dip the 27'' knife into the paint and stir it,preferably red paint so then it looks like there's blood on it.

For a knife that size you have to line up 30 ducks in a row

i think it did happen at a bank ,when a bloke came vinto the bank holding a paint brush and a can of paint , then he painted the bank teller all over his suit , and said dont worry this paint is -wash/wear]

i can just see 2 gangs of about 12 blokes come together one group take out there knifes all diferent sizes 3 to 15'' double blade special edges but not the ivory ones. and the other group pull out paint brushes from 1'' 'to 12'' some sash cutters some oval cutters all mixed. the group with the knifes say to the other group ,what sort of protection have you got , and a bloke from the paint group says your house gets 10 years protection with this exterior paint. wont peel resist the rain the sun and even blood stains.mmmm

As lyndal said the bots have picked up the word "ivory" hence the removal and 3 day suspension. It's a waste of time emailing ebay as most of the time the answer to your email has nothing at all to do with your question I would be on the phone right now demanding to speak to an Australian Supervisor (will still have a non-Australian accent) and stating in no uncertain terms that your listings be reinstated and your suspension squashed.

Put the knife issue aside this ban on old ivory items is a load of carp ( not only ebay but worldwide) While thankful this practice of taking ivory has legally ceased & rightfully so the poor animal died decades if not 100s of years ago so lets appreciate the item for what it is. If you imported a piano with ivory keys from Japan they made you remove the key tops & then replace with plastic. Crazy!!! What about all the old pianos on ebay for sale Looked at a few & all had ivory keys ( I know what to look for as I am a piano tuner) So is it against ebay policy to sell these?? What is to gain from removing the keytops. Just more of the worlds craziness !!!

I sold some WW2 Hitler youth knives a while back too.
i had to stop selling them because they had a Swastika on them.
i thought I was selling historical curios, but got lambasted by eBay by selling "nazi related material".
If you type Nazi into eBay, you get a lot of hits, try it.
