Wrong postage on invoice

this has happened to me several times now.  This is the first time I has caught it before I reached the PO.   I sold an item to Qland. I live in Melb.  The invoice stated the postage was $17+ but when I go to PO web site it is going to cost me $28.   and as far as I am concerned the buyer,  bought the item knowing the postage was $17.   It was only a $5 purchase,  so I will be out of pocket by $6 eBay will not take responibility for it as I have tried it several times before.    BUT IT IS THEIR FAULT   >X-(

It's OK people.   I over package the item and trebled the weight.  So  am going to try to lighten it.

The eBay postage calculator is generally accurate. I've never EVER had it over or under-charge.

But I am pretty good at estimating the weight and size. What I do is do a "pretend pack" as I list the item, by chucking into a carton that I will be using to post it.

That means that I have the box size 100% correct. I also check the weight and if close to a kg boundary (eg: 970g) then I round it up to the next band 1kg to 2kg in the postage calculator.

I don't actually pack it - I leave it in the carton (unpacked) and wait until it sells.

Thanks....That is exactly what I do.  but something went wrong this time.  It was a framed copper etchimg so it needed to be protected. I found an old box a flat screan TV came in and with the foam it was perfect,  but it turned out to be just TOO big and TOO heavy. I trimmed it down and it is OK now.   The origimal weight was 900gms, so I listed it as 1-2 kg  but after I packed it it was 2,5 kg and the dimensions were also too big.

Learn by your mistakes.........
