TOTALLY agree - Late last year I opened my own Website as well as went out & bought a good old $90 Pre-Paid Phone.... Website Fees are half of Ebays & no FVFs
Haven't done any advertising other than Flyers & since Xmas sales have grown to now equal Ebay. From my Research, these are Buyers who have abandoned Ebay for quite a few reasons but mainly because they realise that they can buy better, cheaper & MORE SAFELY direct from a Suppliers Website, especially if they're here in Aust. & they've woken up to the Free Postage Scam - They are not as stupid as Ebay think....
It's also way better for me in that they pay when they make the Sale - no UPIs & waiting 8 days to get Fees back & being able to relist.
Also, I'M the one that decides who gets Refunds and/or replacements & when....

That was my point.
The facebook local to me buy & sell page is very popular. 5000 members.. wouldn't list anything there that would sell on eBay and can be posted.

As it should be. No 3rd party can accurately decide that, without even seeing the item posted/received.

Maybe look at joining national groups or start your own.
I don't offer pick up - everything is posted. I try on fb for sales prior to eBay - working for me
Its certainly confirmed to me that there is nothing wrong with my markets or stock

I agree there are quite a few alternatives.
I've found some work for some items, but some other sites don't seem to have a lot of viewers so I haven't had any luck with those.
Ebay's advantage is it does get a lot of buyers at least looking and it does seem to work well for smaller items that can be posted. Because it has the auction format and more viewers, you also sometimes get a higher price. That's what we found in any case.
The fees are getting higher every time you look, I admit.
I found last year though that the fees can be high in other places too. My sister and I wanted to put a garage sale ad in the local journal. 3 lines=$56. They had to be kidding.
We found a couple of free online places to advertise (gumtree/gazzasgaragesales) but it is a pity some of the other big sites don't have just a bit more traffic yet.
My fear is if some of the sites eg gumtree do take off, we will find they start to charge for listings. I heard they were already talking about a listing fee, though it hasn't come in yet as far as I know.

Think ebay hopes more people would auction their stuff rather than just list it as a Buy now.
lots of people grab the free stuff on the eucalyptus tree and pop it on here

eBay have specifically prodded sellers towards BIN for many years now, rama.
What they REALLY want is only big box and Chinese junk sellers. Not understanding that the small, niche sellers are their point of difference. Just like your local Westfield mall.

I have just found out that ebay charge a fee for the postage and handling I charge on items I sell, What is the go with that !!!! I charge as little as possible for postage and handling and some times even loosing out on it to keep the buyer happy because as we know they love giving you less than 5 stars for any reason, all the buyer can see is the price on the parcel when they receive it.
So now we have to factor in your VERY UNFAIR FEE on our postage and handling risking getting bad feed back so that you can get that extra drop of blood out of that stone you are squeezing namely us the seller.
I think now it is time to use other selling outlets SHAME ON YOU EBAY !!!!!!!!
