Just Had an MC018 warning and duplicates removal after I contacted ebay on this very subject last week and received the following response regarding listing the same item in different categories. Can anyone offer any advice on this? I can't get any sense out of ebay so far.

It's almost impossible to get consistent interpretation of the rules from either ebay employees or posters on these boards.

We had a listing or two cancelled by ebay just recently becasue they said they were in the wrong category. We put our items in this category becasue it seemed appropriate and because there were literally hundereds of same items already listed in the category. Mostly from Chinese sellers.

When we asked ebay about this they would only stick to the party line and said that we need to list ours in the category they were saying. We even reported one same listing from a Chinese seller for being wrongly categorised but to this day it still remains listed there.

So we felt a bit discriminated against to the point where we sought legal advice. But we were informed by the lawyers that basically ebay are so powerful that you will never win such a discrimination case, so they declined to take it on.

So no choice but to cop it on the chin and move on.

BEST TO ask on the UK boards, as here in Australia we do have many different rules for listing duplicates.

When I have couple of the same item, and have some listings left, I just add an extra word or number in the title, so the heading does not come out the same. But they are in the same categorie.

This has happened to me also, and I did the same as in your last sentence...

Can't help wondering why anyone wants to list more than once for an item. If it is a BIN then just have a quantity of X and if it is OK to have multiple auction listings but it is not a good idea as a second interested party will just go to the first one without a bid instead of bumping up the price of the first one.
