Basically once people have used their 30 free listings for one, two, maybe three months they'll all be powersellers...<<
Is this really true??? I don't ever want to be a power seller and lose the advantage of 30 free listigs per month, as I simply don't sell enough of those 30 listings to warrant it.
you sold what? 18 of your last 20 listings? and you dont want to sell, you just want free listings, with no sales??? huh???
once a casual/partime seller reaches the level of $3,000 pa in sales with 100 sales a year, then yes, they are p'sellers, they are regular SELLERS with SALES, and no longer qualify as casuals who can have 30 listings a month to see if they can / like selling.
you would be well onyour way to that, check your seller Dashboard for how close you are to PS status each month.

Not sure where you got that from, but of the 30 I listed for Feb, I sold 15, many of which were relists from Jan. In the last 60 days (Jan and Feb combined) I've sold 21 out of 60. Going further back, I sold 5 of my 30 last October, 13 of 30 in Nov (many were relists from October), 5 of 30 in December (again, many relists). So that's what? 44 in 5 months? 44 out of 150. 30% successful sales is not what I would call a really good strike rate. Perhaps it is? It doesn't feel like it to me. And even if I managed to sell 100 items per year, which I guess is possible if I keep listing 30 per month, I wouldn't come close to $3000 worth. And presumably to achieve PS status, both criteria would have to be met?
However, I am still not sure what the advantages of achieving that status are.

Just checked my seller dashboard, and according to it, my power seller standard is 'none'.

Just checked my seller dashboard, and according to it, my power seller standard is 'none'.
well next to or near that PS Status none you can click to see how you are going exact $ and Sales #s.
if your reLists are selling 2nd time around, and you are lowering your start prices 2nd time around, then I'd guess you maybe need to start slightly lower on 1st listing and hope for more bidding. I dont mean start at .99c that is a ridiculous idea eBay introduced.
I just clicked on your View Listings / Completed and got the numbers I mentioned above, I didnt look at your completed listings for the last 6 or 12 months.

I didn't realise that the greyed out area on 'none' was clickable. Now I have done so, I have found in the last year I am about halfway there on both criteria.
I didn't reduce my prices on the relists, except for one item. And then the buyer turned out to be from interstate when I had stated quite clearly the item was pick-up only. So sale was cancelled.

Dear ebay
I am writting to complain that I am making too much money and thanks to your carp site I am now a successful seller and you have said I have to be a power seller.
I don't want to list on here any more so I am off to a proper site where I can continue to list for free and rarely sell anything so my status will remain as a casual seller.
I think it is very irresponsible of you to allow me to make that much money without warning me that I would have to pay for all my listings, you should have told me that I should only list things that do not sell or only sell for 99c.
You are going to deeply regret making me a PS so that now I can't use your site to make money anymore, see how you like it when I take my free listings to another site!

I thought for a long time that phorum was not a seller however in a thread a while ago she revealed her selling id as beasbooteek. whilst you may not agree with her she does seem to be a TRS etc.
The problem as i see it with ebay is that ebay demands people to be PRO sellers-they just don't realise that some people do not want TRS, or powersellers or any of that garbage. All they want to do is sell a few things from around the house-they do not want stupid DSR stars etc-what the hell happpened to just being able to sell something without having to worry about dumbo feedback, negatives/positives, lowered search standings. Why don't ebay have a section where all the wannabe bigname turkeys can sell their stupid cosmetics/harley davidson/aromatherapy/clothes/beads/louisvittontrash rubbish garbage and beat up on each other and another section where small "mum&dad sellers" can sell without having to worry about lowered search standings, DSR's trying to outdo each other with buyer ratings etc.
Too many headaches are being caused by bigtime sellers competing with small time hobbyists-if there were two distinct sections on ebay(big and small time sellers) then the headaches would be reduced.

Ebay introduced the free listings to allow sellers to have a chance to see if they liked the idea of selling on ebay.
If they thought ebay was a suitable venue to sell their items, whether they be new items or bits and pieces from around the home, once a seller reached a certain level they were no longer eligible for the free listings. Ebay have called this level the Powerseller Level. They could have called it Level 1 or Green level or any other name but it all means is that sellers have reached a certain level of selling.
Once they have reached that level it is up to the individual to decide whether or not they think eBay is the right platform to sell their goods.
They can choose to stop selling or they can choose to sell at the level they have reached which means paying listing fees.
It is no different, for example, when a gym offers 1 month free membership as a trial period so the customer can see whether or not they think this is suitable for them.
After the trial period is over the customer has the choice of either paying a membership fee to continue to use the gym or if they decide that the gym is not what they want they no longer use it.

. . . . they just don't realise that some people do not want TRS, or powersellers or any of that garbage. All they want to do is sell a few things from around the house
and sellers who only sell a few things from around the house are ineligible for TRS / Powerseller status regardless of how much those few things sell for. So . . . . if you don't want the upgraded seller status stick to selling under the status qualifying levels. Spread your sales over a few IDs if you are getting close on one ID.
Also, I am a small time seller and I choose not to give two hoots about feedback received, DSRs and competition. I do eBay for the enjoyment, and once I start worrying about things outside of my control the enjoyment will disappear. Worrying is a choice!
