From 14 February 2026, new requirements for selling WELS products on eBay will go live.
Products such as showers, taps, washing machines and dishwashers that are covered under Australia's Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards Act 2005 (WELS Act) are required to be registered with the WELS regulator and labelled with their WELS information and water efficiency rating.
What's changing
To meet the latest Australian regulatory requirements under the WELS Act, sellers must display the WELS registration number in listings for regulated products.
This requirement applies when listing WELS products in new condition, including:
- Taps used over a fixed basin, kitchen sink or laundry tub
- Shower heads and combos
- Toilets and bidets
- Industrial plumbing and fixtures (taps)
- Washing machines
- Washer-dryer combinations and sets
- Dishwashers
Next steps
If you sell products that are covered under the WELS scheme, please update your listings as soon as possible to ensure:
- The product's WELS registration number is added to the listing using the WELS Registration Number item specific
- The product's WELS label and water rating information are displayed clearly in the images or description
Listings that do not comply with Australian regulatory requirements could be subject to removal.
