From 23 February 2026, new requirements for the sale of electric micromobility devices on eBay will go live.
Electric micromobility devices are small, lightweight, electrically-powered devices designed for personal, short-distance transportation, such as e-scooters, e-bikes and hoverboards. Due to potential consumer safety risks associated with these products, as well as with lithium-ion batteries and battery chargers for such devices, we are updating our policy to align with the latest product safety guidance from regulatory authorities in Australia and overseas.
What's changing
Our Product safety policy will be fully updated with a new layout. A new section on micromobility devices outlines new restrictions and requirements for these products:
- The sale of new electric micromobility devices, new lithium-ion batteries and new battery chargers for micromobility devices will be restricted to sellers whose account is in good standing. Learn more about our Products with eligibility requirements policy.
- The sale of refurbished micromobility devices with new batteries will be restricted to pre-approved eBay Refurbished sellers.
- All micromobility devices, batteries and battery chargers will require valid certification. Specific safety standards required for each product are listed on our policy page.
- When listing permitted items, sellers can either select an approved product that already has the required certification or upload product documents showing compliance from a recognised testing lab or the manufacturer.
- New battery chargers must be designed for the type of micromobility device they are intended to charge. Chargers can't be marketed as "universal" or suitable with multiple types of micromobility devices.
- The following items are no longer allowed:
- Used micromobility devices, including used e-bikes and e-scooters
- Used or refurbished batteries for micromobility devices
- Used or refurbished battery chargers for micromobility devices
Next steps
If you sell electric micromobility devices, including associated lithium-ion batteries or battery chargers, please take some time to familiarise yourself with our updated Product safety policy and review your existing listings as soon as possible.
If any of your products don't meet our new policy requirements, you will unfortunately no longer be able to list them. We recommend you end your listings prior to the updated policy taking effect.
Listings that do not comply with the updated policy, including listings from sellers who are no longer meeting our eligibility requirements, could be subject to removal.
