Wow Prim! That's hot! I hope you all get some relief from it soon. You too Iza. The breeze turned into wind here and it's cooler but it's wreaking havoc with the big fires in Gippsland

Hi everyone 🙂
Wow that is hot Prim 😮
Hi Deb,Thankfully the wind is starting to cool down a bit here.
Wind won't be good at all for the fires .I hope it calms down soon.
We've been catching yabbies again in one of our dams....Rex Hunt style (minus the kisses) as the one's we've caught have been too small ,played trivial pursuit, painted with DD and lazed around.
I've searched and found out that my Uncle (the only son in a family with 7 children) was in 5thRAR in Vietnam and reading about what his unit did and where they went. He doesn't talk about it much and I've never looked before as it kind of seemed like something he did not want others to know about.Mum said he has started writing about that time in more recent years.Maybe one day he will share that with everyone...or perhaps it may be just for him and is kind of therapeutic to get it all down on paper.
Hope that everyone is managing to keep as cool as possible

Iza................my Dad was in WW2...........he signed up at 17.
He never never never spoke of anything that happened during that time.
All he told us was there was some sort of exchange program for British Servicemen to come out to Australia after the war ended............and that is how he got here.
He never really even said what service he was in.
I tried looking things up with his medals..................but WW2 ones were not numbered or anything like that.
I paid a professional to look into things for me.............and nothing................all they could tell me was he either served with the Army............or the Merchant Navy.

Hi Flashie, My Pop who was in WW2 was the same.Rarely spoke about it though he did sometimes bring out a baccy tin in which was a piece of cloth he said was from a Japanese parachute.
I've been able to find his records and those of other family members who served in various conflicts. It's unusual that your Dad's records can't be found isn't it ? Do you think he was younger than he said and may have enlisted in another name perhaps ?

It is because of his name that we can not find him Iza................he has a very common Scottish name.............and we have no idea what date of birth he used.

Poor Sydney. That is just horrible weather. Canberra is not looking too Canberraish either. We are back to mid 30s next week after quite nice weather the last couple of days.
