How much is too much for a house?

I was chatting to a friend from Adelaide tonight who is selling her house in a beachside suburb (Semaphor Beach?). Shes about a block away from the waters edge so I thought she'd get a few mill. (I'm from Sydney lol!).

But she reckons she'll be happy to hit the $500,000 mark.

I can't imagine a house so close to the city and so close to the water selling for that price but then again, being from Sydney, I am a little skewed when it comes to real estate.

So what do you think is a fair price to pay for a house 10km from the CBD?

(Perhaps mention where you are from when you answer - it might put your response into perspective)

For Sydney I would expect to pay around $900,000-1.2mill for a house within a 10km radius in all directions around the CBD.

(2-3 bedrooms, some garden, garage)

I medium price range for most major cities is at least half a mil.

It really depends on the area and market value.

You can get a mansion for half a mil in the States. You get bugger all for half a mil in Aus.

I have a few properties and I expect all of them to be worth above a mil.

Well apparently you can get a pretty nice house in a great suburb close the city in Adelaide for half a mill bob.

Adelaide is too boring for me.

Talking about a boring life - how could you not have heard about The Fonz? I can't get over it...

There was a house listed here recently asking price is  $1.5m - small town South Coast NSW,  deck shaped like a boat, 180 degree uninterrupted ocean views ( LOTS & LOTS of salt spray though from small blowhole).

am - a friend of mine just bought a house on the cliff overlooking the beach at Easts Beach. She paid just over $600,000 but it needs a lot of work.

I thought it was a bargain lol!

oh this is the brag thread
