For me it would depend on the business. I used to work in a shop where I was the only one there, so had to eat my lunch on the go so to speak. If it was a business where I knew that was unacceptable, I would be a bit miffed. Even more so if its stinky. I am allergic to garlic so the smell of it makes me feel blergh.
Sounds like the staff need an internal memo to remind them of the rules icy

Well I told her how I felt about it when she came to do my afternoon tea break and she apologised straight away then I felt a bit like a grumpy old woman.
I didn't want to bring any one else into it, she's a nice young person and I didn't want to embarrass her unneccesarily

Sounds like you did the right thing Icy.
I used to work with a woman who would reheat the stinkiest Thai fish curry for her lunch (she was anglo and Aussie born so no, this is not a racist rant). We had a lunch space in the office so I suppose the stink was OK in there, but OMG it lingered, even the next day. Yet, she would go off her nut if anyone opened a can of tuna for lunch and popped the can in the bin. She'd fuss about, fishing the can out of the bin, wrapping it up 70 billion times and giving a lecture to everyone about "smells" in the office. LOL!
I'll never forget the "rice milk" incident :^O A new staff member found we were out of milk so he used a bit of the rice milk in the fridge for his cup of tea. He told everyone at lunch and apologised. Thai- fish-curry-lady went off her head! It was her "PERSONAL RICE MILK AND I HAVE ALLERGIES YOU KNOW!" She has since retired and the rice milk incident happened several years ago. However we all still whisper "Don't mention the rice milk, shhh." B-)

So what if you sounded like a grumpy old woman? I think its better coming from you, than getting caught by the boss, and receive a reprimand.
If she says anything later, just tell her you don't want her getting in trouble over a small matter

I definitely hate the idea of peope eating at Reception or at a desk in view.
But Icy I am guilty of bringing in last nights dinner to reheat! Pea and Ham soup most recently, but often it is curry or something garlicky. I think you are a bit harsh there...
Why have a microwave in the kitchen or staff room. All food smells, my boss often gets a takeaway meal, eats it in an office and it lingers and smells. What else can you do? Eat outside or ban hot foods maybe.

It would be more inappropriate if the girls were smoking joints.
Unfortunately some people object to breast feeding in public. Apparently you need to let your baby starve until you arrive home.

Because I like food, my thoughts would be - I wonder what they each have in their takeaway container.
