That is sad news to me...I appreciate his work.

Jeffrey Smart was a friend of my grandfathers and he painted my grandfather when he became principal of his very first school. It hangs in my fathers house . It captures him perfectly...not very officious...a big softy...with a mischeivous "motorbike riding trumpet blowing" glint in his eye..

Lakeland, I cancelled my post when I realised the thread was started when he died last year..

I have no idea of why it has been revisited....dragged out of the archives.

But I know what you mean by the Murdoch press.
