Martini.............I'm looking into getting a new kitchen, can you tell me about on average, what price I'm looking at. We were thinking about $5000, not including appliances.

You won't get ceasarstone anything for 5k.

As you can tell I haven't even started to look around yet LOL

Plus I didn't want to spend too much on the new kitchen cause we're not planning on staying here for that long.

Oh pressed metal is gorgeous, there are afew places on the web.

For your $5000 have you thought about just changing the cupboard doors to save money & then new tops, new splash etc.......

The link i provided to Home 1 will also take you to the reno threads, alot of great ideas/tips there as well.

Also ikea have great savings this time of year on kitchens ,they also have a build your kitchen page, its really handy as sometimes you love the look in your head but to see it before making any choice's can help so you can see any pitfalls with your ideas.

We bought for our other house a kitchen from ikea, mostly with drawers, saved heaps during the sale, the kitchen has been in approx 6yrs without any probs what so ever.

We have been renovating  & someone walked in while we were working & asked if we had put a new kitchen in,so it still looks fab.

Take your time.

I'm in Tassie so no IKEA. In saying, there are a few custom cabinet makers in the area or pretty much on par with IKEA pricing. It's one of the pitfalls of living in the boonies, if it costs more it costs more not much I can do about it. I'll make sure they have thick backs for sturdiness.

The kitchen is 1963, the doors are inset not hung on the front so can't be replaced and two doors are held on with tape.

The bench I have had for 14 years, if I want to put four dinner plates on it I have to move the coffee and sugar canisters to the fridge. I just can't go on.

My SIL kitchen was 45k not including appliances. In that respect, I'm glad my kitchen is super small.

Toon - I have sent you some info.

Crystal - depends on how big the kitchen is. But I would say that your average mid to bottom of the range kitchen if hubby isn't installing it would be $15,000. Without appliances or caesarstone.

But you are close to IKEA - so get an IKEA kitchen! To do a kitchen the size of the one posted in toons photo above shouldn't cost any more than $4000. I just did and IKEA kitchen for a small unit and it was $2500. It was small mind you...

But there are so many ways of saving money when you do a kitchen. Doing a full height pantry instead of base cupboard, top cupboard, benchtop and splash might save you $500 for a 60cm component. And people get carried away with all the accessories and soft close stuff - all things that aren't noticeable if you are planning to sell a house. And things like overheads cupboards are really expensive.

And glass splashbacks might cost $200-$300 m2. But you can get a glossy warm look by choosing 600 x 600 polished porcelain floor tiles instead - will cost you $50m2.

And generally if you go to a kitchen company, then you can expect to pay 30-40% more on the price of a kitchen.

That's why it irks me so much when people baulk at my design fees when they ask me to quote on a kitchen - they don't get that a decent independent designer can SAVE them money cause I'm not trying to upsell them...
