World English Dictionary

hate speech

— n

speech disparaging a racial, sexual, or ethnic group or a member of such a group

in other words I see hate speech as racism or bigotry

So how do others define it?

Hate is a 4 letter word.... it's used far too much as a discription.

Have a different opinion is often thought as hate speech....which is totally untrue

I have proof that lolcats are "hate speech".........................Cat Surprised

Since you gave a dictionary definition.I will give Ask.com's Smiley HappySmiley Tongue

Hate speech is, outside the law, communication that vilifies a person or a group based on discrimination against that person or group.[1][2]

In law, hate speech is any speech, gesture or conduct, writing, or display which is forbidden because it may incite violence or prejudicial action against or by a protected individual or group, or because it disparages or intimidates a protected individual or group. The law may identify a protected individual or a protected group by certain characteristics.[3][4][5][6] In some countries, a victim of hate speech may seek redress under civil lawcriminal law, or both. A website that uses hate speech is called a hate site. Most of these sites contain Internet forums and news briefs that emphasize a particular viewpoint. There has been debate over how freedom of speech applies to the Internet.

Discrimination is the prejudicial and/or distinguishing treatment of an individual based on their actual or perceived membership in a certain group or category, "in a way that is worse than the way people are usually treated."[1] It involves the group's initial reaction or interaction, influencing the individual's actual behavior towards the group or the group leader, restricting members of one group from opportunities or privileges that are available to another group, leading to the exclusion of the individual or entities based on logical or irrational decision making.[2]

Discriminatory traditions, policies, ideas, practices, and laws exist in many countries and institutions in every part of the world, even in ones where discrimination is generally looked down upon. In some places, controversial attempts such as quotas or affirmative action have been used to benefit those believed to be current or past victims of discrimination—but have sometimes been called reverse discrimination themselves.

ask.com is not really a dictionary though, and don't forget, I also added my own words to describe how i saw it.  🙂
