That is criminal Deb - such a beautiful landmark in the Melbourne streetscape.

Who does VCAT report to and when did they approve of the 'development' plans?

.

They are the end of the line Laney, I don't think they answer to anyone. I might be wrong but it could've been approved by Justin Madden, ex planning minister for our last state labor govt

Well hopefully Napthine will take some action to enquire into the decision at least, with a view to creating such a disturbance about it that it is overturned!

Don't you have a Heritage Minister in the current government? Perhaps the National Trust or an organisation such as that should start up a petition to overturn the decision ...... it is criminal that such a Melbourne icon could be allowed to be so disrespected in the name of 'progress'!

.

No, it's a done deal apparently Laney. Our heritage buildings should not be tampered with IMO . I won't be going there for an afternoon tea again

That's sad, Deb. I hope enough people protest and get the decision overturned.

Surely some sort of activism could have some effect?

I recall when Jack Mundy saved the Rocks in Sydney - perhaps there is an opportunity for someone like him to stir up some protest or other or is it a matter of vested interests being too powerful?

Did anyone watch the Kerry O'Brien interview with Clive James tonight?

.

Well if you didn't watch it, you missed a really great programme!

One that requires re-watching in order to appreciate his facility with words and his talent.

Night all Smiley Happy
