Fisherman Catches Sea Monster!

A FLORIDA fisherman thought he was gonna need a bigger boat after snagging a rare 362kg sea monster off Miami Beach.

Captain Mark Quartiano, better known as 'Mark the Shark', posted a photo of the bizarre catch on Instagram on November 23 with the caption, "rare deep water dactylobatus caught while filming a TV show soon to air at the end of the year."

Very little is known about the species of fish apart from the fact it mostly inhabits muddy bottoms of the continental slope at depths of up to 915 metres.

Quartiano, who tagged and released the beast back into the ocean, told ABC news "it's like a big gigantic whipping stingray."

"It's a dinosaur," he said.

"It was very old. It had barnacles all over it."

Reef fish find it too hot to swim

WITH concerns that humans are turning into couch potatoes, it seems our fishy friends may be in the same boat. A study has found large reef fish are becoming more lethargic as oceans warm up.

A study has found large reef fish are becoming more lethargic as oceans warm up.

James Cook University researcher Jacob Johansen says the fish are spending more time resting at the sea bottom and less time swimming or reproducing.

Even when they muster up enough energy to swim around, they swim at a much slower rate, he says.“The loss of swimming performance and reduced ability to maintain important activities, like moving to a spawning site to reproduce, could have major implications for the future distribution and abundance of these species,” Dr Johansen said in a statement. -
