I was trying to explain to a friend why AFL footy was so important and exciting to watch that I have to miss a dinner gathering because of it. All I could come up with it just is. She just gave me a stare like I'm out of my mind.
How do you explain to someone who has no concept of why sport can be such big part of someone's life even though it might not directly affect it?

I don't know. I would give you that sort of 'stare' also.

My daughters birthday often falls on grand final day / weekend. We don't follow football:( She is not impressed that again her birthday has to be celebrated a week earlier as friends can't possibly miss such an event *sigh*

so you're saying Bob, that you have no reason as to why sport is so important to you, it just is, right?
Some people can go their whole lives and never really live for a single minute.

Why can't she hold a grand final day get together slash birthday party on the same day.
BTW you would be better off holding her b'day a week later to be fair. You can't miss Prelim finals either.

Sport makes me feel alive and I get that tingly feeling.
I know I know. I sound jus like a religious nutcase.

She's gone out tonight with about a dozen friends....31 this year so her choice. She will never hold a grand final day! Football is not watched here and never will be.

I was going to say, maybe think about that next time that you decide to pick apart the beliefs of others. eh?
