New Australian Prime Ministers' anti-environmental agenda

Australian environmentalists' declare new Prime Minister, Tony Abbotts' green agenda as ‘anti-environmental', designed only to profit the mining industry at the cost of climate change solutions, reports Maxine Newlands...

Australian environmental groups are equally concerned about Abbott's plans for the Great Barrier Reef.Greenpeace Australia Pacific's Ben Pearson says "In his first 100 days Greg Hunt will make a number of decisions that will demonstrate whether he is serious about protecting the magnificent Great Barrier Reef, and addressing climate change by not allowing our massive coal export industry to expand even more. It is critical to his credibility that he rejects these reef and climate destroying projects".

New Environment Minister Greg Hunt is tasked with the policy changes and placating the mining industry. Hunt's first big job will be to decide whether to approve the expansion of the Abbott Point Port and whether to approve to massive new coal mines in the Galilee Basin that will increase shipping the length of the Great Barrier Reef.

If Hunt approves the expansion at Abbott's Point Port it will become one the largest coal ports in the world, backing-up environmentalists long held the belief the Australian government is in the back pocket of the mining industry.

Senator Waters says "Abbott has promised his big business buddies that he will devolve national approval powers for developments that impact on matters of national environmental significance to state governments. That would leave approving developments that impact the Great Barrier Reef up to [Queensland] Premier Campbell Newman, who when asked about the reef declared ‘we're in the coal business'."

Environmentalists will fight hard to stop the Abbott governments ‘anti-environment' plan. "The Greens won't stand by and let Mr Abbott rip up our progress on climate action and give the big mining companies open slather on the Great Barrier Reef. Australians love the Great Barrier Reef and we know we have a responsibility to the rest of the world to act on climate change" says Senator Waters.

This is an interesting comment that i read and has a ring of truth abouit it

The adults are now marching through Canberra removing all the deadwood and dismantling the boondoggle bureaucracy that was a hallmark of the Rudd-Gillard-RuddII triumverate. More amusing is watching the couch experts in the Greens and the ACF squealing as the iconoclastic toe-cutters move through the crowd of climate carpetbaggers and rentseekers cleansing the country of this combined cabal of crooks and their enablers.

Lets have look at some of his ridiculous predictions -

- Flannery had warned the Arctic could be ice-free by 2013 (ice this year increased instead)

- Australia is likely to lose its northern rainfall (there's actually been more rain)

- Perth will be the 21st century's first ghost metropolis" (Perth is now headed for its wettest September in 40 years).

- Flannery in 2007 said global warming had hit Australia so hard that without desalination plants Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane could be out of water by 2009.

- Even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems," he warned.

- Instead, floods filled dams in Sydney and Brisbane, and the expensive desalination plants hurriedly built in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide are now all mothballed or scheduled to be.

- Sydney Airport will be flooded by a 1.1m sea level rise

And the list goes on.

As someone who is not alarmed.... I can say - at least we no longer pay him for being so fundamentally wrong......

So should the rest of the Australian public (Many I'm sure, share my thoughts).....Tony has done them a massive favour....and

saved them from a lot of needless fear and hysteria.

Siggie, It would appear that your respect of science and medicine is selective.

Do you feel that a Commission needs to be completely dismantled because you feel that Tim Flannery is in your opinion not fit for the job ? You have said yourself that Climate Changes ....
