I hadn't thought of Fiona Coote for years then yesterday at the garden centre saw she had a rose 'Fiona's Wish'. Very pretty red and yellow and scented.

No problems. Not sure how I ended up on CS.

I found a news article about their breakup.

I hadn't heard of her either, not surprising given my age in 1984 😄

She was an amazing young lady, so brave and accepting of her condition. Yes, she has a beautiful rose named after her EM. She avoids publicity, she was to star in A Country Practice, but decided the publicity that would evoke was something she didn't want.

If I remember right (and I'm old enough!), I think she had 2 heart transplants.

Yes sandy she did, the first she rejected, so she received her 2nd heart - Dr. Victor Chang was the surgeon.

I often have brain snaps where I think of someone and wonder what they are doing now. Yesterday it was Petria Thomas the swimmer....

On google it says she was married, but the marriage failed. She is now dating someone.

She decided not to have children because of the stress it would put on her heart.

Unless she saved some ova, she could never have had children, as the steroids cause sterility.

as the steroids can cause sterility.  Very much depends on the individual person. Same goes for chemo...

You are right.  I should have used the term 'anti-rejection drugs', which are more severe than just steroids.   Especially when started at puberty, or earlier.
