How do we know the plumber has a partner?
No, the cost wasn't the OP's issue, paying it off under their own terms was, ... OP paid $74 upfront and offered $50 a month for 6mths.. so obviously intends to pay the $374.
We weren't there so we don't know how accurate the about 1/2 hr estimate for time spent on the job was.

Poor plumber. No wife and the son doesn't want to work with him anymore.

Some tradies charge an hourly rate, not a 1/2 hour rate, some also charge for travelling and use of equipment.
So, if you take less time, the hour is still charged. Some charge a minimum rate.

My old printer was easy enough to print envelopes but this one doesn't help! I so wish my OH would convert to online banking................

Thank you for the hearty laugh after reading todays additional posts. 🙂
I just want to know if the poor bloke has been paid and if the OP sleeps well at night. I mean the OP is having such a dreadful month what with the gutter guard that they should have been refunded for ( because that's what so many posters said) but turned out the roof was the problem due to lack of maintenance and now the plumber wants to be paid for services rendered.

rose robin .. not sure if you had a typo there but the charge was $374 not $574.
I have had plumbers fix a running toilet cistern, takes them less than 5 mins.. cost $100 call out/service fee, cost of the small part, plus extra $$ labour. I lease the house so don't pay it, but have seen the invoice. Everytime I have needed a plumber at my house he has been here less than 5 minutes.

I agree with freddie, az, just get him set up for online banking and a computerised bookkepping program (if you haven't already got one of them) No more envelopes and stamps or cheques in the mail, email the invoices for customers from the accounting program.

I think it was the $200 he charged the neighbour plus the $374 for the OP's bill.
